12.5:1 is such a wasted compression as you need race gas anyways, so go to 14:1 or 15:1 and get more power

it will depend on what size engine you are building to know what piston is needed for that cr

It just a matter of opinion.. If your freshening up a motor and you are at 9.94 compression and there is a simple piston swap to get it up to 12.5... I'll take it ., Not going to spend a ton of money to get to 14....

A piston swap cost money however you look at it.if its gona take a custom piston the cost is about the same whatever your compression.you'd like 14.1 Wink

501 cid
6.700 rod
4.14 crank stroke
ported dove- c heads 73cc chamber (just checked at machine shop)
4.390 bore
.015 below deck
.040 head gasket..
current pistons 28cc dish srp154166... 9.94:1 compression.
This is a good running motor just want to fresh it up and get more compression.. NO NEED TO GO BROKE ...

found pistons that are 3cc dish that will slide right in..srp 150725
But i do like good advice.. If i could find a piston that will get me to 14 compression i'd like to have it...
I cant find a lot of options for this motor the way its built... But i might be mission something!

X2 To get from 12:1 to 14:1 in this case will be a change from a shelf deal to a custom one. $400 vs $800

These will work fine. Won't need to deck it and will need a little thicker gasket.

Guys have been running cast cranks for years with higher static compression ration, not a problem IMO

They're out of stock at the moment.....and the SRP will work fine for what you're doing.

A flat top will not get you 14.1 cr. though. You will need a dome.

The cast crankshaft will be happier with a flat top piston..i.m.o.

i'm going to use the srp pistons. at 12.5:1 compression... not going to push it... I like my motor the way it was at 9.5:1, so i'm pretty sure its only going to be even more enjoyable.......
