TRW pistons
TRW became Speedpro, a very good piston, their forged pistons are strong and proven. I'm using Speedpro blower pistons for the 460 (dish tops, forged, full floaters) and have had the motor apart a few times and they are doin great. If you can get them cheap I would buy them.

Re: TRW Powerforged pistons
yes but it will be a matter of time if you are going to get them I would invest in a set of good H beam rods....that will help alot with the heavier pistons....
and yes over the years I have run them with stock rod but now that we have such a nice selection of rods and not to pricy I would invest....

Re: TRW Powerforged pistons
I have used TRW/Speedpro in the past and never had a piston failure. In fact I had a set in a 302 that I sprayed about 7500 passes with a 250 shot on and still drove the car daily and never 1 glitch. and I highly agree with Randy that these pistons are heavy and for the cost of reconditioning a stock set of rods and replacing the bolts you pretty much bought a set of better rods.

Re: TRW Powerforged pistons
never a bad idea to upgrade rods,if one breaks that trw piston will put some hurt on your valves & head.hell, the piston may even take the head out and still be useable!LOLdirtbogger wrote:Spinning about 6500, mud bog truck, stock rods work or should I upgrade????the Coug wrote:the only draw back is they are HEAVY

It depends too on where they are made
BarryR, who I believe lurks around here but spends a lot of time on the FE forum used to be up the ladder at FM in pistons. A few years ago they moved all of their piston production to India. They used to make them in Malden, MO and they had state of the art machines. There have been sets so bad from India you can't even use them. My nephew got a set of regular rebuilder Federal Mogul ones that he had to just send back, the ring grooves were really rough and had chatter marks on them. I think I would go for a lighter Probe myself. The older ones were good, but as mentioned, heavy. On a 460 with a big bore, thats a big factor on longevity.
