Made it to the track today!
Well finally made it out with the new combo to Gateway. I shifted at only 6000 RPM to break it in. 1st pass, 1.424, 6.435 @106.73, 1/4 10.12 at 132.56. They then switched us to 1/8 mile because of the weather and timing. Only got one time trial so I had to keep shifting at 6000 for eliminations. 1st round 1.422, 6.417, at 105.71, 2nd round redlight pass 1.428, 6.415, at 107.33. I think it will go 9's pretty easy if I start shifting a little higher. But I don't have time to get my license before the next points race so I'll keep granny shifting for a while. Everything stayed together so I was relieved. Thanks to Charlie Evans, Lem Evans, Dave McClain and everyone else who has given good advice on here.

Nice job. I bet that was fun!
Did you use the same cam on the new build?

New Cam
Cam is slightly larger because my old cam got wiped when a chunk of the crank made it up to the lifter gallery. Its .726" lift 264 and 268 at .050".

That's a good cam. I've used it in a few builds w/engines like yours.

What was your optimum shift RPM with it? 6000 is definitely not the sweet spot. I can't wait to twist it up some more.

I ran that cam (or one very similar) in the 514. I used to shift it early, usually around 6200...it was happy to go higher. It was pulling like CSX when I hit the traps at 6600 or 6700.
