Tri-Power Testing
During the dyno tests of the 618 Interceptor (KFM A-Head) i determined that more throttle body area made more power. The best results were with a combination of a 4" Flying Toilet and a 5" Toilet paired up on a tunnel ram. Since I had most of the parts laying around, I decided to put 3 toilets on for a little research project.
Since the 618 has been in the car, I have not made a full pass on a good track with a good tune up. All of the outing this year have been run with restrictor plates, mega timing retards, short shift and lots of ballast to make the car run 10.0 Index with no electronics. Results were ok. It would run 10.0 at 146..147 at 4,000 lb. The other 10.0 cars all run no faster than 135-136 MPH. This was with a 4" Toilet and a 4.1" Toilet.
So...I went ahead and built this setup.
It is based on a KFM custom top for the Trick Flow manifold and has two 4" Toilets with the 4.1" in the middle.
During the same test session, the main focus was to get the car to run with a throttle stop, since I entered the Super Street 10.90 class at the NHRA Southern Nationals next weekend. I modified my current home made inline 2 stage pneumatic stop to fit the triple deal. I wanted to collect information to make the car run 10.84 at Silver Dollar Raceway, which will be a 10.89..10.90 at Atlanta Dragway. It was a Friday night Test/Tune with lots of street cars, so I left the timing backed up..worried about the surface.
I made 10 nice hard, straight runs with a couple "learning" runs gettting the stop ratio. The very first pass was strange, since someone forgot to plug the shifter in...12.16 at 141...
I did a little fuel system tuning but I really should have brought some high speed bypass equipment. It is currently blocked off for index racing and it was fat on the top end, hurting the speed. I hit 3 or 4 10.84..10.85s at 146--147 ++ with a 8 MPH head wind. While the throttle stop is closed...about 2 feet from the starting line..the '58 shifts to high gear and makes the entire (rest) of the run in high gear.
Last pass...Turned the throttle stop off, but left it fat and with a few degress out of the timing. Ran 9.0 at 151 and ran it past the finish line till it hit the 7600 rev limiter. Racepak graph shows it still accelerating hard up there. Not really sure where it will nose over. Some day I will find out.
For now, the tripples will stay on.
I like the way they look anyway...

Re: Tri-Power Testing
Nice!
Wow, 9.0/151 @ 4000 lbs!
BTW, what is the little thing in the injector line going to #3?

Oh..that is a linear vortex generator.David Cole wrote:Nice!

Not really...one of my injector lines came up short, so I took a motor plate spacer, tapped it for 1/8" pipe and made a coupler to extend the hose. the proper hose will be delivered from Killerrons.com in the morning.
Good eye....
Oh..I pulled some ballast and had it down to 3850 or so...
Thanks
Keith

Sure would be interesting to see that bad boy in a light weight top sportsman car

Yeah...AL Q wrote:Sure would be interesting to see that bad boy in a light weight top sportsman car
I keep thinking the same thing.
Top Sportsman or Top Dragster - two huge gas carbs on Q16 - little bigger cam..billet runner intake...maybe 1/4" more arm..
Bigger version is in the works.
Thanks,
Keith
