A460 intake gasket
Im having an issue with my intake leaking at the top of the front corner studs nuts. Its torqued down tight. The gasket that i used are a, i assume cheap one that has no beads around the ports. I used a gasketitch on the head and intake side but dont think i put any silicone around the water ports. Plus the heads has been milled .020 but didnt mill the intake. My intake bolt holes really didnt match up good. I had to chamfer some of the holes at the bottom. Any help would be great.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: A460 intake gasket
My A460 IN.Gsakets don't have silicone around the ports. I put them on dry w/thin layer around water, and a good bead of silicone across frt./rear walls. Chamfering the holes isn't a problem.

Re: A460 intake gasket
Do you think i need to have my intake angle milled down .020 like i had the heads milled down .020 for better fitment? Why do you think im getting water up through the front corner bolts? Either way i look at it i gotta come up with it, just wondering what you think.

Re: A460 intake gasket
Mine were cut .100 so i had to cut the intake side on the head too,NOT the intake.i did have to cut the front and back of the intake cuz it set down on the block.with only .020 off yours and the fact you did get it bolted on i'd think it should work with a little glue at the corners.

Re: A460 intake gasket
I personally wouldn't think .020 would be a problem. Put some silicone around the water jacket openings and u should be good.

Re: A460 intake gasket
These gaskets that im using, they are sce, no bead around the water ports. They seem like a card board type material. I did use a gasket glue on head side. Would that glue moist through making the gasket edges look damp or could it be the fuel causing it? This 114 octane is some strong stuff.

Re: A460 intake gasket
The rtv will leave a oily look on some gaskets if it is just at where you gued it I would not worry unless it is leaking fuel should not be around the water jackets more than likely it is the rtv you are seeing

Re: A460 intake gasket
On my intake gaskets I only use the RTV around the water ports only and the front and rear of the intake to seal it to the block. I never use RTV around the intake ports as gas may eat it away and cause problem later down the road. I have cleaned parts in gas and the RTV will jail up in the gas.

Re: A460 intake gasket
You are right. Auctually that's how i do it. I really thought that gasketec glue stuff would work around the water ports which it may have if i would have put some on the intake side as well.

Red Permatex silicone. Just make sure it's for hi temp. "The Right Stuff" is good also. Good luck:Dtconnection wrote:BBf-falcon, what kinda rtv do you use on your intake?

Re: A460 intake gasket
Ok i got a tube of ta31 and the .031 cometics are in the mail.
I have never had an issue like this. Im hoping this time fix the problem. If it dont its gonna have to be some bad machine work either on the head, block or intake. As for the sealer is it ok to go ahead and seal around the ports on the head side?
Thank for any info.

Re: A460 intake gasket
Yes, use sealer on both sides of the gasket. Use it around the ports and around all water openings. "THIN TO WIN", meaning, smear it on thin with your finger tip.
