1986 Mustang GT Project
Picked up an 85 GT a few months back, its at the body shop getting painted (Probably take him a year ot two, if the last one was any indicator....LOL)
Trying to decide on what power plant to put in it..... I have several engines laying around
1) 347 FT motor with Z304 heads
2) Boss 302 Clone with Aussie 2V heads
3) 351 Cleveland 4V Motor.
Going to run a TKO600 and a 3.73 8.8 with a T2 locker and 31 spline moser axels I have.
Looking for something to drive on nice days and realy don't want another race car. Rather have something cool to cruize and take to shows / work on nice days.

My Buddy who's painting the car is trying to talk me into a single turbo 5.0..... Not sure I want to spend that much $$$ on it.

I'm kinda leaning to the 4V Cleveland or the Boss Clone.
The car is white and I think it would look cool as hell with some Boss side stripes and blacked out hood.
What would even be cooler is if I could get a shaker for it.... Hummm......

Re: 1986 Mustang GT Project
Dave would a 400M crank fit in that Cleveland?? That would be a nice engine combo!! I read a long time ago that Roush built a 460 ci. 400 put those 4v heads on that and do a burn out!! I still would go with the 351 4V regardless, you don't see many and in a relatively light car even stock it would be fun to drive!! You are putting a 5 speed behind it right?????? Don't they make repo shaker scoops that you could adapt to an air cleaner??? When are you going to do all these project cars??? The pipe rack, the merc, this mustang,.........we want you to start them all and do a burn out soon!!!

Re: 1986 Mustang GT Project
Theirs a company that make fiberglass repop shaker assemblies for about $800 ea.
http://fordramair.com/new/products/shakers.htm
I'm thinking one could be adapted to fit relitivly easily. Hummm.....
Yep I have a complete TKO600 set-up already.
Rack all together, Merc is running and all together, my other mustang is about 90% need to finish detailing out the motor and get it running.
This ones sitting at my buddies body shop, I sold the 5.0 and 5 speed ot of it.
the 400 cranks dont directly fit in the cleveland block, need the mains cut, its easier to just buy an after market one now days.

Re: 1986 Mustang GT Project
Well I've made up my mind on this one, going to put a street built 351C 4V in it.
Now the question is built it to Handle or for Drag Racing?

Re: 1986 Mustang GT Project
Okay glad you took my advise and used the 351 4V now I would think that with the lighter engine (over a 385) and with the manual trans it is a natural corner carver, and set up it should be a blast. There are plenty of suspensions parts to make it handle good. Most of it is all bolt on too. Me I would put the Capri front fenders and rear blisters on it to cover the big tires, maybe sneak the engine back a tad and have fun!! Besides it seems that you have enough drag race cars!! Good luck and keep us posted!!

The Cleveland with a stick will be a blast.jeffgfg wrote:Okay glad you took my advise and used the 351 4V now I would think that with the lighter engine (over a 385) and with the manual trans it is a natural corner carver, and set up it should be a blast. Re: 1986 Mustang GT Project
351C 4V Street motor with a T5 is going in the car. Motor came with a 1970 Mustang I purchased from Mikey and it needs to be used !!
Mild build, Lower Compression, stock type .040 rebuild with street performance cam and Torker Intake and 3310 Holley, OC 4V heads.
Going to install a Moroso Fox Swap Pan and a Set of 1 7/8 D&D Swap headers and see ho it goes.
Car is in the Body shop getting some paint and cleaned up.
