Re: which tranes
IMO,with 700hp a good c4 would live a while. i had good luck with mine but the car was 2600#.in a 3100#foot brake car the c4 may be faster than a glide.if you have any plan to go faster just skip the c4 and get a glide.sskwb wrote: running a 700 hp bbf, 10.5 slick or 315 drag radial, ladder bar, 4.10 9" gear.3100lbs, 95 mustang in no box foot brake racing or street class, 1/4 mile racing
what trans? power glide, c-4,c-6 ?
1) will the tire handle the tall first gear of the c-4 or c-6
2) will a well built C-4 handle the bbf long term
3) WILL THE CAR BE A DOG ON THE STARTING LINE WITH THE POWER GLIDE?
4) reliability and consistency being most important
thanks in advance

Re: which tranes
You put a c4 any c4 behind a good race 632 @ 3000 lb and hook it on a 600 shot........................2fox wrote:Am going to put a 632BBC. In my stang with my C4 with 600 shot..
And you can go to your trailer and get a corn scoop and scoop up all the parts from the starting line out to the 60 ft line where it spit that c4 out...................
You will put a BBC in the car and not put a glide.............. I'm confused:scratch:

Re: which tranes
So a PA SC C4 wont last behind a 557 with alum SCJ heads for summitt. with pump gas comp. I don't run a lot just for time. Not for money.
With a litttle nitrous later.
The BBC is just a joke..I know people.with chevys that don't like to run.9 inch rear ends lol. But I have on. Am tryingng to be serous now.

Re: which tranes
It will last on a pump gas 557. How long is just a guess. What happens is , if you gear it to turn the shift light on at the end of the eight mile with a short 28x10.5 tire it is going to have a very low final drive ratio in first gear and be hard to hook, violent leave and inconsistent.2fox wrote:So a PA SC C4 wont last behind a 557 with alum SCJ heads for summitt. with pump gas comp. A 557 10.5 comp may have up to 650 maybe 700 ft lb of tq. 700 x 2.46 fist gear x 4.30 ring gear=7404 lb of torque to the tires. And then your converter can multiply torque up to 1.5 to 2 times, now you could be as high as 14,809 lb of tq to the tire.
1/4 mile track will work with a 3 speed with your combo as far as gearing , but the chance of breakage is still there.
A glide is cheaper and just a better deal for a BBF 1/8th mile bracket or weekend warrior.
Now for the street and street tires put the c/4 in it and a 3:00 gear and have the best of both worlds.

Re: which tranes
I have a really good friend that is as die hard ford as they come. He has a 830hp FE in a 58 Ford w/PA C4. After the 4th rebuild PA told him they were denying his Lifetime warranty. So he made a few changes to it and actually accomplished a few extra runs from it. Well,it went south again last month at Norwalk. The case was busted along w/other inside parts. He called PA again and talked to the owner about it. So.they agreed to replace the case and rebuild again. Its back in the car again heading to the Geezers race at Kilkare. Keeping our fingers crossed.
I agree w/you guys,a racing 2 speed is the way to go w/big hp.and consistency.

I don't know that I'd put myself through all the hassle to make a pass and a half each year. Flog your pickup truck.2fox wrote:So you telling me the best PA C4 transmission rated for 1000 hp. Is junk? For a drag car that only gets appx. 12 passes in 8years?
BTW, the 'glide is the way.

[quote="2fox"]So you telling me the best PA C4 transmission rated for 1000 hp. Is junk?
No it is not junk, but there is another part of the equation you are not looking at or giving thought to, T.Q. and R.P.M.
Low RPM and high Tq Kills C/4's. Big block Fords have this even the smaller cubic inch ones are above the majority of small blocks in this area.
I just had a 472 on the dyno that made over 650 ft lb of Tq. @ 4800 rpm cam was short and on a narrow separation. That was on gas, it made almost 700 on alky.
A 1000 hp small block will be short on tq and high on rpm, C/4 may last behind that combo. But I doubt it.......... for long:roll:
