http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/05/28/flu.deaths/index.html

The World Health Organization has counted 14,557 cases of H1N1 -- 96 of them fatal -- in 48 countries.

Seasonal flu typically kills 36,000 Americans in any given year, though such cases usually have tapered off by this time of year, according to the CDC.

I got it back in August. I have never been sick like that before. In bed for a week. Never had chest pain like that either. Man did it hurt to cough. Fever just went on and on. I missed a great deal on some parts off of craigslist because of that crap.

Your information is flawed.

The # of cases of H1N1 is climbing every day, and Deaths are still mounting in spite of knowledge of H1N1
It could be argued that the reason the # of deaths has not exploded is because of the media bringing it to everyones attention.

MOst of the 36000 avg deaths per year (U.S) are caused by developing pneumonia, as people assume they can fight it off.

Suffice to say generally healthy people are not not nearly at risk as those who are not, regardless of the flu strain. Guaranteed anyone now who is a sickly person is seeking medical attention in fear of the H1N1.
I'd be willing to bet the # of flu related deaths in the U.S dramatically goes down for this year and possibly next year, because of that fact.

East Toledo has a lot of flu cases.

NW Ohio is out of EVERYTHING, tamiflu, regular flu shots and H1N1 shots.
Hospitals are on "no visitors" rules. A few schools have closed

Its the flu. Thats it, thats all. You have to count me in with the 'media hype' crowd. I'm sure it sucks to have it, my girl was really sick a month ago, maybe the pig flu, maybe not. I monitored her temp which got up to 103*, gave her tylenol and advil and kept her drinking fluids no matter how much she complained. She recovered nicely and only missed 3 days of work.

It is till you get it. At a ~3% fatality rate i'd hardly call it "media hype"

A political bargaining chip???? are you kidding me??
It ain't only in America, why would your "powers that be" benefit from ME getting it?

I guess if you listen to les's info of only 92 deaths which is BS, as its closer to 4000 and counting.

Not trying to get into a pissing match here but the fatalities are low compared to the coverage. Period.
To call a 'state of emergency' is flexing power. It is not needed. I cannot comment on the rest of the world (yet) but our fearless leader here in the USA is on a power trip. By creating the illusion of great danger and then 'saving' us we become dependent. Exacly what big government wants.

Just my opinion fellows. You don't have to like it, and certainly don't have to get pissed about it. Rolling Eyes

ITs rapid spread and high fatality rate (as far as flu strains go) are whats caused people to call a state of emergency. (pandemic) Its absolutely not an immediate danger for the bulk of the population, however it is for the young. I'd bet my last dollar if there was no talk of the H1N1 flu there would be FAR LESS people seeking medical attention, and the deaths would be far higher. Especially in youths. There has been 2 here, and I dont live in a very big city. Its been YEARS since anyone had died from the flu here. You can chock it up to media hype if you want. Your wrong.

Zaire virus (ZEBOV)
The Zaire virus, formerly named Zaire Ebola Virus, has the highest case-fatality rate, up to 90% in some epidemics, with an average case fatality rate of approximately 83% over 27 years. There have been more outbreaks of Zaire ebolavirus than any other species.

Here is a sample of a deadly virus. Shocked
