Question  What is the attraction for spending upwards of $2,500.00 for 20" wheels with skinny sidewall tires then installing them on a 20 year old pick-up truck or car worth $750.00 ...?

I just got home from a "cruise" and I saw several vehicles like this in it ... I just don't understand. scratch

I can not answer that but the bad thing is if they hit a pot hole they might just have to replace the tire and wheel. The guy at work that works with me on my shift hit a pot hole with his he had 18" side walls about 2" now it costing him 600 to replace it.

Better yet, Randy...most of 'em don't have room for those salad shooters and wide tires, so they rub and cut those pricey tires when they turn the steering wheel.scratch  But with a quick change of blades, they can make cole slaw.cheers

It's like back in the eighties when they defined their status by how many spokes they had now it's defined by how many inches they have. It's frickin ugly for sure and most are hacked up to fit. It makes me laugh how ridiculous they look.

That I remember; I saw a couple early 90's Crown Vic's a late 80's Chevrolet Caprice, a mid 80" F150 full size pick-up, a mid 90's Dodge Dakota pick-up and a bunch more. so, it certainly isn't relegated to a particular brand.

I thought that I must simply be missing the point of whatever something is going-on here, (maybe simply an older person thing), but, I guess not.

In my opinion ... some did look rather ridiculous raised really high just to make them fit.

I really wanted to know if it was an "out of sync" thing with the "cruiser street rod crowd" and this trend could be explained to me.
That's a lot of money for wheels & tires for use on an older "not restored" vehicle. Laughing

A newer vehicle or one that is worth quite a bit more than those wheels & tires, I can understand. MAYBE ... I saw a 66 Ford Galaxy Pro Streeter looking and sounding like a Pro Stock drag racer except it had those wheels & tires on it.  ???

BUT, this older minimal value vehicle scenario ...?  It just appears to me that they are just "wanna be" folks who seem to think it is cool on everything and THEY are the one's who haven't got a clue here..

We went to US 41 on Sat. to watch Billy Glidden run Tim Lynch's new car. There was also a big wheel race, and there must have been 25 of those big wheeled abortions show up. I have no idea who dreamt that up, but they should have been slapped. Good thing was Billy took the first 2 races and got to call it a night early.

There were 2 70 Chevelles there sitting on 22 or 24" rims. Made them Chebbies even uglier. The bright orange Caprice vert topped them all though. It hsd a 454 with a bug catcher sticking out of the hood. Ungodly ugly.

I think a lot of cars look good with larger wheels like 18's or maybe 19's. What is retarded is putting a lift kit in a crown vic so you can run a 30" tall tire. Wtf? Just whip that body off and throw it on an F150 frame if that is what you are after. Very Happy
