SSSCOOOORE!!! More pics........
I found another dream ride yesterday ... I have always wanted to build a car from the year I was born... (1967) I had a 67 Galaxie fastback a few years ago, but due to "life happens" I sold it ... Well, yesterday I scored a very nice 67 Mercury Monterey fastback for $300.00... Everything is there, and it's very straight, but will need some bodywork... It is almost 50 yrs old ya know ... LOL!!
It's a 390 auto, IIRC the guy said it only has like 7x,xxx on it.. I sent some pics to a couple guys that are on here, so I'll see if one of them can/will post them for me ...

Sweet ride Doug, you stole that thing. What are your plans, a 385 or leave it an FE?

FE??!! Though they were pretty good in their day they just ain't no 385... I have a good running 466 in the garage that'll work rather nicely I believe... Drop a good C6 in it, and go... I'll just drive it around and work on it as I go... Should be a fun ride...

Doug, cool car put a paint job on it some nice rims and add the 466 and C-6 and you're good to go.
Later Mark

I love the lines on those. Nice score Doug!
You didn't steal that from Buzz did you?
I say keep the FE...your pal Randy knows a thing or two about tinkering with them!
We'll be in Bozeman Labour Day weekend for the International Mustang Meet. Come by and say howdy...the big car show is on the Saturday.
There isn't any drag racing during the event, but there's rumour of some kind of parking lot antics after the show!

That's the plan Mark. I'm gonna make a driver out of it, and just work on it as I can. This one won't be a racer, but she ain't gonna be no slouch either... LOL!

You know Buzz Ken... You think anyone can get anything over on that man?? LOL!! The 390 has a slight rod knock, so I'm just gonna run with the 466/C6 combo... I really don't concern myself with originality, and now that I found this one, I ain't ever gettin' rid of this one... I'll see what gears it has, and if I have to, I'll touch it up with a set of 3.25'sor 3.50's and make a great cruiser out of it. The car has 71,463 original miles on it, and I surely aim to add to that!! LOL!!
I'll see what I can do to make it to Bozeman and let ya know ahead of time. If you're taking 15 down to 90, you should swing by the house on your way; you can see my house from 15...

That car's really cool. And you stole it for less than what it would bring in scrap value, no less... It will make a very nice street cruiser!

Re: SSSCOOOORE!!! More pics........
Here's a couple of pics where I tried the look of a cowl hood. It looks OK, but not sure if I like it as much as if I made it like the Fairlane GT style from 66-67, with the open front. The hood already has a natural hump in it, and it wouldn't be too hard to just make it about a 2"-3" opening, giving it more of a Ram-Air effect.
Here's a few with the 466/C6 mocked up. I'm using a plate and some rubber isolators instead of the factory style mounts, to try and make more room for better headers later. I have some Crites headers that I'll use for now. Should be a fun ride either way.
Due to the height of the mounts off the frame, I made some small gussets to install to help give the plate mounts better support. Looks like I have a little clearance work to do on the oil pan for the sway bar though...
This car is going to be a daily driver, so the 466 isn't anything really radical, but it does run pretty good. It has a solid lifter cam, and it should give it that old school sound when cruising the streets. However! The 466 "IS" just temporary. Down the road, I'm going to put a schmoozed over pump gas 5?? in it. But nobody around here will know it, Til it's too late, that is...
Stay tuned, there's more to come in the next few days...

I'm fairly strong in my agreement with that statement... After some more looking, cowls have their place, just not on this one... Definitely looks too chevy'ish...jpierce55 wrote:I vote no on the cowl.

I think a large Mach 1 scoop would look alright on it.
