New Sand Drag Truck
FINALLY got time this weekend to actually start making the engine switch from my 1989 full size Bronco (4400 lbs) to the new-to-me tube chassis 1992 F-150 (1582 lbs w/out motor only). Right around a 3000 lb diet plan.
Engine is a SVO block bored and stroked to 604 CI., with a set of first edition aluminum SCJ's worked over by Roush.
Taking the Coan proglide out of the Bronco also.
Bronco ran a best of 4.84, so with the weight savings I hope to be a LOT faster. Pushing to be done and racing w/in the next 7 days.
Pics to follow, and plan on the occasional progress pic throughout.

Definitely interested! How much you want, and can it wait till Septemberish? No time for a road trip in the next few weeks

Could you send me more pictures of that chassis? I'm thinking that would let me shave more weight out of my turd. I'd really like to see how the cab fastens to the tubes.
Also Rob, I might be interested in that glass clip also.

Sorry guys, been so damn busy with work and trying to get ready for another brutal winter I just have not had a moment to breath, let alone keep up with infoP.Lafferty wrote:Ray, you ever get this thing going?
Kinda-sorta got her going. Forgot just how much trial and error there is when putting a new ride together, especially when using part of what some one else already built w/out you knowing exactly what they were thinking.
Oh, where to start?!?
Well, I rushed around to try and run her for the Labor Day weekend, JUST so I could see what issues to address over the winter. Busted my ass, 48 hrs straight w/out rest, got to the dunes, and boy it did not take long for issues to start popping up. One of my own making (blaming that one on lack of sleep) It seems that I forgot to clean out a couple of the freshly made gas lines, and the magnafuel 4 port regulator is VERY touchy, so after 4 hours of troubleshooting just to try and get her off the trailer that one was resolved.
Ended up running awesome, and moving awesome, as long as I wasn't trying to race (which kind of defeated the entire operation)
The previous owner ran a c6, and I am partial to PG's. When I had my Coan big dog pro glide made for the Bronco, I had them put a 1.87 first gear in to get all that weight moving. Well, with the new truck having a 600 rear gear and about 600 lbs on the ass instead of 2000, she just sits and spins and is quite embarrassing. So, threw in the towel and loaded her back up.
Went out a few weeks later to play with the suspension and try a few other things. Only way to get her to semi-launch good is as soon as I release the trans brake bump her into 2nd. Then she hooks and go's pretty good, but not good enough.
Decided to switch out the 600 for 456, and holding out till I try that before I add a weight rack above the axle. So, busted my ass again to get gearing changed so I could run her at Kleinschmidts, the year-end play fest. Get there, start her up to unload and no oil pressure. WTF NOW?!?!?!?!!! Changed out the gauge, oil looked good, no answers that day.
Dropped the pan the next day, and there hanging and all loose at the broken stem is the oil pump. Just hauling her around on the trailer on these lovely MI roads broke her I am guessing.
Then I see the bearing "dust" in the pan.
So, ordered a new pump from Kaase and going to slip some new bearings in from the underside.
Been a crappy end of summer due to all the above, and still won't know what exactly I have until next year.
BUT, one really cool thing that occurred was calling to order my new oil pump and Mr. Kaase himself taking my order and shooting the shit for a few minutes. That was sweet!
I will be starting a new motor build soon, but trying to decide on just building a blown monster or ?? When I decide, i will start a thread on it.
I have a ton of pics, but time to load is short
Thanks, Ray

BBF guys are no strangers to busted oil pumps, at least the stockers. I'm sure Mr. Kaase filled you in. I'm also sure it wasn't broken by trailering on a rough road. Good luck with it.
