What Distributor Empty What Distributor

Post  Super Snake Steve August 22nd 2013, 3:29 pm

Looking to update my ingnition looking at the pertronixs plug and play. First my motor is a 429scj with dura spark and old Jacobs ingnition box and coil and over the years because of the 11:1 CR it works best with no vacuum adv. hooked up dont if this is because I don't know what I'm doing or what but when you hook vacuum up it Predetonates. My question is if I buy new distributor what to buy they have vacuum with mechanical adv then they have vacuum adv. and the just all mechanical. I call the tech guy at pertronix and he's said my motor didn't come with vacuum adv. just dual points well I searched that and from I could find is it did come with dual points and vacuum adv. he Suggested the all mechanical one I don't care about fule mileage and buy the way I mix 93 octane no Ethanol with 112 octane to get 96 octane. Oh buy the way the I'm looking at is flame thrower 3 and the guy said it fires twice each time to stop Predetonation any help would be great

I would send the dist. to Scotty at RHP and have him set it up for your engine and then throw an MSD box at it if needed. They say the Dura-spark is good for up to 700 hp. FYI your SCJ came with a DUAL diaphragm vacuum advance. It had 2 hoses hooked to it. Never had a problem with mine.

I have seen many people try and save money and go to pertronix and every one has had the same results. junk so they have to either get it fixed or trash it, get an MSD and be done...
