The shaft units are also the ones that get installed on the most abusive valve trains with the most aggressive cam profiles.Wink
On them real zippy hotrods, the normal stud stuff might not survive the burnout.

Dan, You're wrong. They are all billet alum. and some such as for the B 441 IHRA Hemis are steel.

They are billet aluminum made from an extrusion. He's never made a cast rocker in his life.  They look cast because each of his rockers are shotpeened, and that gives it a textured surface.

I was trying to help you out when I asked Jet Boat Bob if he had that broken rocker arm, I wanted to show it to Wilfred. Then Bob called you and you brought it over, where we all looked at it and studied it.  Your rocker had a partial fracture that was older and a dark gray in color, then from that old fracture there was a fresh break which was shiny and had occured at Hardinsburg the Friday of the Ford Thunder Race. I do not remember him saying it was a casting flaw,,,,, he wouldn't have said that because they are not cast.

At the Thunder Race, Bob came over, asked me to help him help you, and wanted a spare rocker. I told him there should be a new one in the Keown's trailer and he went and got it on put it on your engine.

I do not know why George has broken two rockers, but experience has taught me there is generally a cause if one looks close enough.  Things such as blown head gaskets, water leaking into a cylinder and the cylinder hydraulicing are a cause. Adjusting the valves with the pushrod "accidently" setting on the outer edge of the cup of a lifter, and then the pushrod dropping in the cup, then running the engine with more than .125" lash can cause a rocker to break, with the bigger valve spring pressures. A common cause is over torqueing the jam nut when adjusted the valves, that causes a stress riser to start from the threads and go outward through the aluminum body.

Certainly both of you guys are free to switch brands and run whatever shaft rockers you choose.

yes we can run any brand we want, but we went with these cause u said they were really good. now that I have broke 2 Im starting to wonder. I got nutten wrong inside my motor, and know how to adjust the valves and don't over torque them. As a dealer for these I would be wanting to get with my coustmers and try to fig out the problem and get with the company about this problem.

Are you keeping up on checking lash and springs? Do you check you spring pressures and change the valve springs after XX runs? Have you floated them?

Kaase's run WW stuff on his PS engines and doen't seem to have unusuall issues like you do. They run a whole lot more spring, cam and RPM than you do, but they also do religious maintence to.

Now I do recall WW having a bearing issue a number of years ago, but I believe that has been taken care of.

Post  56Tbird August 25th 2013, 4:40 am

Dave,I changed springs on my engine about 50 passes before this and checked the old ones. But in all fairness to W&W I had a low pressure oil switch go bad before this rocker failure that was shutting my ignition off at WOT that tore up a lot of other stuff which could've resulted in this. I do keep up with valve lash and have never had any issue with it.George runs the overhead on his everytime it goes out.I checked it tonight after this one gave up and the rest were in good shape as far as adjustment.

I know some of you guys may think im stupid or my stuff is junk or idk wut the hell im doing, but I check over everything good before every race. hell I even change the oil and it wont even have 10 passes on it. I change the springs way before they are needed. I never run any use parts on my truck. all this started out by I couldn't believe I had brokened another one and maybe get something done about it but instead some people think im stupid and don't know wut to do. if anyone has anymore comments they feel they need to say heres my number feel free to call 12709290356

I don't think your stupid at all. Just sometimes things get overlooked or in the heat of a moment people forget something. It has to be breaking for a reason, that reason just may not be easy to see. It may be a manufaturing flaw or it could be something your doing or you have something else wrong.
