I have not heard of any problems with the motorhome V-10. They just guzzle the fuel tho.
Not sure if the MH has the same V-10 or not, but I have a 2004 F-350 with the V-10 and am pleased so far with it.
I have a 2000 lb. slide in camper and pulling a 8K tag trailer, it gets about 8.5-9 mpg loaded.
Plenty of power.

I can't see any class A gas motorhome getting very good mileage... its a huge brick with wheels... power is also a concern since I was kinda underwhelmed when I towed with a f250 with the v10... then again im used to towing with a 7.3 turbo diesel or the f100 lol.

I tow a 24' trailer using a toad with my 31' class C. It's a 99 with the V10. The toad really helps but, I won't tow over Mont Eagle near Chattanooga with it. I'm sure it would make it up, it's going down I'm afraid of.

Up until 2003 all 2 valve mod motor heads had 4 threads per hole. The were prone to blow the spark plugs out. Other than that they are almost indestructible.
A friend of mine has a 99 F-350 dually and added a 4 inch diesel cat back, chip, and a cold air intake, and picked up a ton of power and it helped the fuel mileage too. We pulled with 4 other guys 3 power stroke trucks and one dodge Cummings with 10,000 lb tractors and tandem axle goose necks and the gas burner V10 pulled right with them.

That's what im worried about.... getting the plugs out.... I doubt they've ever been changed since its only got 40,000 miles on it. Then again maybe they haven't been over torqued? What causes the problem? Over torquing them or leaving them in there too long? Thanks guys.

Problem is number of threads in the heads and some dissimilar metal corrosion issues, eating up the threads or seizing the plugs.

Also when they are changed most people over torque them when they reinstall. Pull the boot off of all of them and spray down in the hole with a good penatrent and let set a few days, that helps a bunch.
Then see if you can break them loose, if you can, spray them again and let set a day or two before you try to take them out.
Patience pays on this job.

The V10 will probably get a tad better milleage than a 454 or 460, 10Mpg would be great for V10 I bet, Since the price of a Diesel is higher, gas is cheaper run your mileage comparison that way, for 1000mile trip, 8mpg gas 12mpg diesel, with th current price of both fuels, and compare the difference, if any, , more oil changes ect, how far you will drive it will be a deciding factor. I guess what I am saying pretend it's a diesel truck versus a 460 truck and a V10 truck And the Diesel is the newest of the three, and most expenisive buy in. Like the other said on the spark plugs, should be ok. Like you stepside, What engine is in it, not an FE by chance? Opp's I saw the fe in you'r avatar, ment Cid anyways?

I bought the V-10 Dually for a lot of the reasons listed above. ^^supervel45 wrote:The V10 will probably get a tad better milleage than a 454 or 460, 10Mpg would be great for V10 I bet, Since the price of a Diesel is higher, gas is cheaper run your mileage comparison that way, for 1000mile trip, 8mpg gas 12mpg diesel, with th current price of both fuels, and compare the difference, if any, , more oil changes ect, how far you will drive it will be a deciding factor. I do not put very many miles on my tow rigs ( about 2500 a year) so the gas was a wiser choice.
It was also cheaper to buy because nobody wants a gas dually. A lot of people believe you have to have a diesel to pull 10K lbs.
Every PS I looked at on the internet (in the condition and price range I wanted) either had a bunch of miles or was way over priced. The V-10 won out.
Plus....I believe it will be a lot cheaper to repair a V-10 than a PS. Hopefully I will not have to find out.
I get better mpg with the big slide in camper on the SD pulling the enclosed trailer than I get with my '84 crew cab 460 single wheel and an open bed pulling the same trailer. (7800-8000 lbs)
Both have 4.10 gears and no overdrive. (SD o.d. turned off)

Wish my 1978 F150 went in the 7's and hung the wheel's like that. I guess a 514 would help. Good luck with your Motor Home.
