A514 Ford Racing Crank... Empty A514 Ford Racing Crank...

Post  514F-1 October 11th 2013, 10:05 pm

The engine in my truck started out as a Ford Racing Crate motor, but the cam was replaced with a larger one, and the heads were cleaned up a bit by the previous owner, but the engine has the dished 10.0:1 pistons in it.  The engine has eagle H beam Rods and the Ford Racing A514 crank.  My question is, if I bump the compression up to around 11.5-12.0:1 in order to get more out of the combo, will I have to change the A514 crank out in favor of a higher quality unit, or will it hold the additional power?  Thanks.

I believe that engine had a forged crank in it, and is the very same forging that Bryant was selling till the supply ran out. Very high quality piece and will stand up to a lot of hp

The Ford crate engines used SCAT cast stuff with Ford journals. They work fine at the level the OP is suggesting.

It's run 6.35 in good air (before I bought it but I have the timeslip) we made a few small changes and it should run 6.30 in good air now. I'm very pleased with those #'s on pump gas in a 2800# truck, but I had thought about bumping up the comp when I freshen It up next year, but if I'm gonna have to buy a crank, then I may just leave it as is.

I've been flogging basically the same combo as yours for a long time. Car is now in 5.70's at 2525 lbs....hundreds of passes on the engine...only wounded parts have been in the driveline. Engine's been flawless.

Run it.

In addition to the pulse jet engine bolted to its bed (frame), the F1 below has an 8-71 blown 514 with the same Ford Racing 4.300" stroke crankshaft, estimated 1000 hp
