Ford building WWll B 24 Bomber Airplanes
Don't know if this has been posted before or not. Ford building planes in the early days.
WWll B 24 Bomber
Bet you didn't know that Ford had its own pilots to test the B-24 Liberators that it was building for the ARMY at the rate of
one every 55 MINUTES!! This was BEFORE Pearl Harbor! Ford's B-24 Bomber Plant at Willow Run, Michigan just outside of Detroit .
Henry Ford was determined that he could mass produce bombers just as he had done with cars. He built the Willow Run assembly plant and proved it. It was the world's largest building under one roof.

The U.S.A. entered World War II to help the British and French for the war in Europe and that is why the production plant was started.
Just a year after the U.S.A. actually declared war against Japan, the workforce at that plant was more than 70% women; even the test pilots and crew.
The add campaign of "Rosie the Riveter" was born.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Md8-zaQU3_o Some more info on the B-24 plant at the 39min mark of the video, and Henry Ford's aviation idea's, not just for the war effort. The 55min per plain did not work out. The Lend Lease Agreement to the Allies, went on several years before we entered the WWII. We where gearing up.

My Grandmother had a job waiting for her at Willow Run. But she didnt drive. Plus she wasnt gonna live in the Ford trailerpark they had then. With 80% women arround, I could just imagine all the stuff going on then! She didnt drive until the 50's. My Dad taught her at 15 in a ole 55 Mainline!
