couple Ahead ? Empty couple Ahead ?

Post  bbfstanger February 3rd 2014, 7:33 pm

these are the old motorsports castings ,when porting the intake port do you leave the floor flat across or angle/tilt it like the valve?
they currently have 2.30 and 1.94 exh. , the throat is already too big for the int. valve size from previous port work so we was wanting to go with a bigger intake valve.will the 2.40 clear the cyl wall on a 4.44 bore?
i seen in another thread where a guy was running a 2.40 that way?
i talked to randy today and he gave me some good advice , just seeing what others have to say.

2.350" intake valve will give you a lot of relief.

Lem, i'm not a head expert, but I do have a ?. Why would someone use such a large exh valve w/that small int valve in that head?

I know you addressed Lem, but perhaps they were on a Nitrous motor at some point . It seems you can never have to much exhaust side with spray.

You gotta consider that a lot of those SVO A460 deals were done back in the 1980s/early 90's and the thinking was waaay different then.

The under head angle & seat angles have been found to produce more performance that just jacking up the head dia.

If you want your heads done right send them to Charlie or Phillip. I just had Phillip rework my Motorsports heads as I had a local guy who sai he knew what he was doing port them years ago. Well Phillip told me what they did wrong and he was able to correct them with a larger (2.350) valve and porting done correctly and Unshrouding where it needed to be done. And it was very reasonable price ( less then what I paid this local jack ass) and picke up 50-60 cfm's . Now I just neEED Phillip and Lem design a cam. The short block is waiting for it.

heads as Phillip got them
.400   256/191
.500   312/221
.600   361/241
.700   402/253
.800   391/259

after phillip
.400   262/212
.500   335/234
.600   390/252
.700   429/268
.800   442/280.

he left some room as i was concerned for the lack of air up here and wanted air speed

and this is for a back up motor and these head flow better thatn the current 557 with the new (2003-2007) a460 heads from TFS

got mine finished,i dont have the complete sheet from when i brought them in.
started with 2.30 1.94 valves
.650 lift the intake flowed 391 cfm and stalled to the point it started backing up and flowed less at .800
.800 exh. went 305 cfm it was with a 2.25 pipe same as the header im going to use.
all test were run on a 4.500 bore.
with a bigger bore the numbers did go up a little acroos the board.
2.40 int 1.91 exh. valves.
after port work
int. .exh
.200 160.3 146.16
.300 236.1 194.8
.400 309.8 249.3
.500 372.3 287.6
.600 408.5 308.1
.700 434.0 327.2
.800 449.5 341.0
.900 459.6

for comparison the latest cnc tfs 2.40 valve on same bench same 4.5 bore
.200 157.3
.300 232.7
.400 305.5
.500 369.7
.600 414.1
.700 437.4
.800 441.7
.850 445.5
