iron cj headed 460
i just put a "new" engine together. i am heading to the dyno the end of next week. i am curious if any one has a guess as to what kind of numbers we might put out.
4.360 bore early efi small dish pistons
3.85 stroke oem crank
stock truck rods w/ arp bolts
dooe-r heads with bowl guide and short turn work done as per Scotty's website
solid flat tappet cam .624/ .648 lift
252* / 260* @.050" lift
port matched victor intake w/ 1250 dommi and 2" open spacer.
zero deck block
11.25 comp.
2" headers w 3.5 collectors
i plan to rev limit at 6500 rpm.
this is a grenade motor to get me by for a while on the street in a light weight f100 2wd.
how do you guys think this will run.

550ish...... Carbs going to be a little big if the truck is heavy, with light gearing and it has a street converter

That would be my guess, also.
Re: iron cj headed 460
3800 lbs. And a 3500 stall. 3.50 gears and a 28" tire.
a have a 750 dp as well that i will be testing on the dyno.
the predecessor to this motor was a .040 over rebuilder short block with with pistons about .030 in the hole and a 20ish cc dish. same heads cam intake and carb. i ran it in my jet boat for 2.5 seasons. when the pump was fresh with an A impeller it turned right at 5600 rpm. blowby became to bad and was making a mess in the engine bay so i pulled it and put it in a 4x4 off road race truck and ran it as long as i could.
after a summer of spinning it 7200-7300 on every striaght away and over heating it countless times it said no more and i lost oil pressure and had to pull it. i dont think i could have asked for any more out of a honest wrecking yard short block.
i figured it should respond to more compression and proper quench in this latest grenade build.
am i possibly leaving any power on the table with this cam?
this engine is going in the truck in my avatar

Re: iron cj headed 460
Try a smaller carb. 950 or 1050, the 1250 is going to make more power on the dyno, but the smaller carb should accelerate your truck better.
IMO the cam will work OK

If it's a grenade engine I wouldn't waist it on the dyno.

Re: iron cj headed 460
Sounds like a solid combo to me. I've sprayed the balls off a cast piston iron head 466 with no problems. Not a huge shot (150-175) but I sprayed it often. Motor is still together today. Are you going with the Mad dog headers? I'd say 575hp if the heads flow well.

i am building my own headers. i am not sure what application headers might fit.
the truck has a '05 crown vic police interceptor front suspension and the engine sits low and far back. I have probably built a dozen sets of headers so that is not a big issue.

Looks good. My dad wants me to do the swap but I want to keep the I beams. How much weight do you think you dropped?

That's pretty sweet. My truck would be around 3800lbs with me in it. Weighs around 4100 now.
