There are only THREE companies who have manufactured "A" heads; TFS or EX514 or IDT.

Best is a subjective term also. Best for a street/strip, best for a pulling engine, and best for an all out N2O deal can all be different. Engine size can also be a factor. List up your goals and what you want it to do.

What I meant were companies that flowed and sold the heads. Well going to be running a heads up class with nitrous and 521 with filled 4 bolt main Cj block. I know Iam limited on the stock block but will be upgrading soon. Just trying to get my combo together and going.

Depending on the RPM range you want to run in, and your budget, you have choices for sure.
The out of the box Trick Flow 18 bolt CNC heads will be a darned good choice for overall power per buck. They now have a factory titanium intake valve option that would be nice.
If the budget is a little looser, and you want more flow..
Take a look at my Interceptor port program on this post:

I didn't really intend to sell them, but set #7 is in the works.
I typically use a 2.5" or larger intake valve on a big bore, so the stock block would require a smaller valve.
Best results to date on a small inch engine had an Eliminator block with a Big bore and a very short stroke, for a mid 530" displacement. It made approximately 1150 + with a cast single intake on gas.
It was a double throw down mill with lots of cool parts.
I would lean toward the Trick Flow factory CNC for the best bang for the buck on your OE block.

The tfs head is good out of the box for the $$.IMO with that cid you can go far with some hand porting and a 2.350 valve.the 903a+ eliminator head will move a bunch of air too but have 2.5 valve.

....and just to add to my input...Phillip Oakley, Charlie Evans, Randy Malik and several other shops on this forum also have killer A460 programs.
Just get on the phone and talk with these guys about their deals.

You're not going to fit the big time A460 stuff on the small bore. Might be best to consider selling the CJ block and getting into an A460 Block

Like has been stated, bore will have a big factor when choosing your Ahead. The bore will limit your flow because of int.valve size.(shrouding)

I currently have 4.400 (501)Lem Evans wrote:What size bore are you thinking?
Re: Looking for best A-460 heads out there!
I know it's going to be tough trying to make a lot of power with the 501. Trying to figure out the best route to for now as far as a good head for later down the road when I can afford to up the size but have a good platform to work with.

"when I can afford to" that say's where your at now.Dwoodside wrote:I know it's going to be tough trying to make a lot of power with the 501. "for now" stay with what you got. the top end plus the valve train plus pistons is what takes the most money.

I can "afford" to buy the top end, valve train and pistons. I came here asking opinions on the best place to purchase a A-head for what I currently have.
Re: Looking for best A-460 heads out there!
I brought a set from Keith Szabo the new 18 bolt 83cc 340cc version from TFS for my new combo. But any of the guys mentioned before will be a good choice.

like said on other post, bore size will limit the valve dia. .
why not wait till you can buy an Eliminator or A460 block? you then save the cost of upgrading the heads- to the level you want.
