found a motor fresh ready to run , for 1300 $

its a 488 he says

stock crank , cobra jet rods with arp hardware , arias pistons (.120 or .125 over ) he says
solid lifter cam , viktor intake, D3 heads little bowl work he said

last year went 10.30s in a 2800lb car he said , went with a bigger motor

Im interested in this to use right off the bvat to get in the car and get shaked down and more or less get used to the car .

Only thing is .120 or .125 over sounds like a lot

Don't think a stock block can go that far. I have a 488ci and it took going .060 on the block, offset grinding the crank to 3.975 and a set of Chrysler rods. It's an old school puller setup. Sounds like that motor is off a little bit  Shocked

There are some factory blocks that will go to 4.500 bore(.140 over stock) just have to be sonic checked before you do it.

.125 over is alot, did he have any paperwork for the engine like the sonic test papers?
i had 8 diff. year blocks checked, all of them would take an .080 overbore , one C9 woulda gone .110.
one block a dove block will go .140 over.
friend of mine had a dove block that was thin at .030
its hit or miss on a thick one.
now that being said if its been running for awhile ,you've seen it run the number and its cheap enough id say go for it.
it sounds like maybe he dont remember exactly whats in it?

its a gamble

bore 4.480 ...... its a .120 over to be exact hard to throw together somthing for that money .....but make me re-think a little .

im looking at it to get somthing to get car moving and shooken down before building somthing . But in long run not sure if this is the best bet with this bore size

block is a c9 ...said it was sonic checked when machined years ago , but no paper work . IT has been racing the past year though

For a grand.... It's a good throw away after you run it a bit.

arias pistons
cobra jet rods with arp hardware
stock crank
solid lifter cam

weihand stealth intake

not sure of compression but he said it between 12.1-13.1

with an 850 on the stealth intake it went 10.30s all day ....... i would think a viktor with a 1050 it pick up ?

I have also heard the stealth intakes are not terrible up 6500 rpm

Sounds like a combo from a long time ago, not necessarily a bad thing. In my opinion a freshened, ready-to-run 488 with forged pistons, ported C9VE heads, etc, could be a great deal at $1000, and since it's got a half-fill (presumably to the waterpump holes) I don't think the overbore is an issue at all.  The actual value of the engine is in its details, but if it has good port work, stainless valves, proper camshaft for the combo, etc, and just received new rings and bearings then $1000 is a bargain. I'd still take it apart after purchase and inspect prior to running but this is true with any second-hand engine I'd consider buying.

Any given cylinder block can be safely overbored much further after it's been filled. A hard-blocked engine can still have its cylinder walls sonic checked, but what's the point in this case as you've seen the car run.

I've had a couple of .120" overs. I broke the reground cast cranks long before I had cylinder problems.

surprised it went as good as it did with the dual plane stealth on it .....seeing the car run and then seeing the intake ....just would have thought to have seen a viktor on there . if it works dont fix it i guess
