Methanol carb conversion to E85
I see a lot of guys converting gas carbs to E85 but has any one converted a Methanol Carb to E85?
I have an 950 one laying around and would like to use it on my buddies 10/10 build.
Is it just a matter of bleeds and jets?

I'm not looking to send it out for someone to build it. I'm wanting to know if a methanol specific carb can be easily tuned for e85?powerstrokeace wrote:Google Mark sullens. he's the man...............

I can buy conversion kits for E85 but I'm trying to be cheap and use what I have laying around.

the main well and main well exit channel in methanol metering blocks will be to large, also the boosters will probably need to be swapped out .
the bleeds and jets are the easy part once you get a set of metering blocks that are suited to the build.
who set-up the 950 you have ?? is it possible to post a copy of the build sheet. we can see how close you can come with the parts you have.

Not hatin' but you are cheap. Me too. It's extensive enough to warrant sending it out but if you insist on doing it yourself, give a shout out to jmarkaudio over on yellow bullet. He'll get you where you need to go. Sent mine to Eric at Horsepower Innovations. Knows his stuff just like Sullens does.
You're welcome.

You sure......
Specific Gravity of Gas 737.22 (15%) + Ethanol 789.20 (85) = SG of about 781.4 combined average.
Specific Gravity of Methanol is 791.30
you think just jetting and bleeds won't handle it?
Energy wise Methanol = 49% of Gas per Gallon
Ethanol E85 = 75%
So their is a big issue there........

Re: Methanol carb conversion to E85
Depends on the carb builder originally, and how it was set up to deal with methanol. ON the pair I bought the main wells were drilled for a second jet application, so, the ability to cut the cross section of the main feed might be a problem.

This one is an out of the box Holley methanol carb that has not been modified.
Going tovput some big gas / small alky jets in it and give it a roll. How bad could it be?

Re: Methanol carb conversion to E85
It was a shame. At least the info is still there.
Also try this one. I think this one starting, was the reason MSV shut down.
The same guys frequent this one.

Re: Methanol carb conversion to E85
86 to 88 main jets if using powervalves,
73 iab
26 mab
using methanol blocks idle screws wont be out very far (probably 3/4 to 1 turn)
e-85 has huge tuning window, this will have u running pretty good
dont listen to the e-85 detractors, they obviously havnt tried it yet !
