Analize vega with bbf runs
I thinking I am leaving something on the plate. Currently runs 9.teen's @ 146 to 147. Car 4 link, weight 3000 lbs. 524 c.i. p-51 heads, tunnel ram with 1000 pro-systems carbs approx 830 hp, 5100 stall, 3.89 gear. I'm thinking the convertor is too loose. Am I on the right track? Welcome to any input, thank you.

Re: Analize vega with bbf runs
seems legit I had a 552 box stock p-51's 838/732tk 1/4mile time 9.40-141 411 rear gear and powerglide 3150lbs 94 mustang.
what is the rom drop?most will see 800/1200 drop.

Re: Analize vega with bbf runs
Im kinda thinking if it's not a power adder combo the 3.89 might not be enough rear gear for a heavier bigger tire car. Maybe it might like some more gear combined with a little tighter converter.

Depending on how hard you twist it I think a 4.30 gear would be a good piece to try.

Re: Analize vega with bbf runs
powerglide with 1.8 first gear. We put in the 3.89 gear to calm down the wheel stand down. Shifting at 7100 and 7100 at the traps. Also if my math is right we are about 14 to 15% slippage on the convertor.

^^this and when you drop the gear that converter will tighten up.it may still top out @ 7100 but it'll have a faster et....

What do the 60' clocks say?
BTW, I agree with the "more gear, tighter converter" idea.

60ft times are in about 1.32 to 1.34. We have tried all 4-link set-ups, shock adjustable rears, just made it loose down track. Front tires are limited with 2" drop and front shocks are stiff. Only have comp. 3 way shocks on front. Also thinking trying a 2 step to help.

"trying a 2 step"? are you leaving against the converter? foot braking? a 4link car should 60' 1.30's easy! whats the weight % and IC?hotrod9 wrote:60ft times are in about 1.32 to 1.34. Re: Analize vega with bbf runs
Yes we are leaving on the converter, top bulb bracket racing. Not sure of the % weight but the engine is set back quite a bit. Could try put some weight on the front but I hate to make it heavier. Tried IC at 42 long and 10 high, 47-8.5, 60-9.5 this last one made loose at 1000ft

Re: Analize vega with bbf runs
@ 9 teens and 147 mph it should have mid 1.20's 60' I too agree with a little more gear and the converter will tighten up a little, if you already have the front end limited @ 2" drop then you may want to try lowering the launch RPM as well, if all fails then you will have to add a little weight to the noise, good luck

Re: Analize vega with bbf runs
What style wheelie bars are you running? I also agree w/4.30 . The 2 step will pick you up a 10th on the 60'. Tweety had a 1.34 FB,and a 1.25on the TB.

Ed's a regular super pro racer (and a damn good one at that) at our local track. I cant speak for his exact setup but I believe he's using a transbrake right against the convertor wo a two step.

Re: Analize vega with bbf runs
Post some good launch video, might help us get a better idea what's going on.
[edit] Also a 60+ long IC in a door car is probably going to be way to far out for the average bracket combo/no power adder combo. It was probably loose down track at that IC length from not enough torque/power to keep the tire loaded at that length/leverage.
