C6 3rd gear shift issue
Quick history,
Bought my first car back about a month ago now. Thing ran like crap. Fixed a bunch of stuff the guy that had it jacked up. Now that it runs correctly, I noticed it shifted 2nd and 3rd way softer than it use to...when I owned it before. I checked the vacuum line supplying it, and the old rubber hose joint at the trans was hard as a rock and fell right off when I touched it. Replaced that, and adjusted the band which I don't think had been touched since I built it 18 years ago. It went 3 1/2 turns in before starting to touch the drum. I torqued it 10 lbs, then backed it off.
Now 2nd hits like it should, nice and firm. But the 3rd gear shift sails rpm 200 to 300 (moderate load) like fanning a clutch then hits. Part throttle(light load) 3rd shift is worse, rpm jumps more like 400 to 500 rpm. Wide open throttle shift, (hard load) sales 200 rpm.
I am thinking maybe thrust clearance opened up or the band is going???
Thanks, Andy

To much clutch pack clearance in direct clutch drum . Check fluid psi too ! Modulator valve check it too .

Me and my brother just discussed that exact possibility. Trans Will be out next week, and we'll be going through it before it goes in with the new converter and rear end.
Thanks for the tip!
I will check fluid pressure before I pull it.

How far back out did you go on the band adjustment?

I went one full turn back, then tried 3/4 turn, didn't make a difference.
