460 Build Help
Hello All, I'm facing a dilemma right now and I've researched for weeks on what to put together on my 460 to make my truck roast the tires. I've spoke with several people and have been lead in so many directions, that I'm confused as hell and ready to throw in the towel. Yes, I've also looked at the horsepower chart already. I'm new to the big block Ford and would like to make a target horsepower of 500-550hp. The engine will be going into a 1985 Ford F-150 Flareside with an approximate weight of 3800-4000lbs with a C-6.
List for the build- Intake-Trying to decide between the Weiand Stealth or the Edlebrock Performer RPM
Heads-Ford Racing SCJ-A
Cam-Comp 280H or whatever you all can suggest.
Pistons-My BIGGEST issue right now, a couple people told that if I have a low duration cam, I wont need special pistons for the SCJ heads , but in fact I think I do. I was just going to go with a set of Probe Pistons with custom reliefs for the heads from Cars By Carl.
I just need help finding a good combination to drive on the street, if you can help this fellow senior in high school then that would be great. Thank you in advance.

Re: 460 Build Help
Well your on the right track then with the heads and pistons and Carl's and good guy to deal with. When I got my first 460 it was from my brother already done and in a 73 ford F100long bed 2x2 street rod with a C6 , 9'' rear with 325 gears and a mini spool , and yes a tire frying machine , we used to mess with so many people on and around Richie Hwy in MD with that beast , It was a blast for sure The motor was a 70 460 Dove-A .060 over with TRW dish pistons #2404 I think and 68 429 heads ported with 2.19-1.73 valves ,studs ,plates, roller rockers, stealth intake port matched and a 750 DP carb , the cam was a comp 292 Magnum flat hyd (244 at .050 560 lift) trans was a Tci street fighter with a Tci Breakaway 11'' converter which was perfect for it ,1-7/8'' headers and 3'' exhaust to 3 chamber flow masters, it was a good street strip combo and a blast to drive , later on I pulled that combo out with the trans, converter too and dropped it in a mustang hatch I bought with 3.90 gears and ran a best of 10.57 at 128 mph with a 1.48 60' it weighed 2725 with me , the only change was a 850 DP carb and later on a HP950 which made no difference at all. So with the SCJ heads you want it'll be a beast, just make sure you can run it on pump gas unless ya don't care about that.
