What's a good mixed on and off road use diff to get for a Dana 44 ?

I'm looking to rebuild my 1970 CJ5 rear end, it's got a bad axle bearing and I'm figuring the diff is probably worn out judging by the single wheel peel grass burn outs.

Not looking for something super expensive.

Not sure of the width of your CJ but on my TJ I replaced the Dana 35 with a Ford 8.8" out of a 2000 Explorer. I put an ARB air locker in it but the standard limited slip might work for you also.

i used to run a traction lock in the front on my bronco. worked pretty well and not real expensive. in the rear I always use a Detroit but they're quite expensive compared to a track-lock

Trac-loc or power-loc.

I have a Detroit True Track in the front, it's a limited slip but it's gear driven instead of having clutches. Works real good and can be locked up by hitting the brakes when one side is starting to spin.

If you take the cover off and have an open differential, a Powertrax lock-right locker can be had for about $300.  It replaces the spider gears with a ratcheting locker.  I've ran one in my YJ for about 8 years now and haven't had an ounce of trouble.

Get one of the electric lockers and have the best of both worlds.

An electric or air locker definitely gives the best of both worlds, but pricey at $900+

The Jeep Rubicon lockers were kinda cool as they were limited slip when unlocked. The early ones were air but then they switched to electric.
