Large capacity oil pan
What is all the benefits of installing a large capacity oil pan on a engine that never moves? (Generator) I had a customer come to me today that wants to double the oil capacity on all of his generators. He gave no reason other than it's what he wants. Only thing I can think of is he believesĀ it will help oil temps.

Didn't think about the longer oil life. I guess with these engines running 24/7 under full load they would burn some oil as well.

Re: Large capacity oil pan
we ran 300 straight six engines for our Irrigation pumps out in Arizona.
My farther had 12 quart pans made plus a two oil filter system that he could change the filters and oil while the engines were running.
Being i was very young i recall him talking about his systems, i did pick up a few things (12 quarts, two filters, and changing oil while running, kind of a sloppy) I dont recall how he did it... Guess i chould ask him.. Got me thinking now...

One of the engines is an 8.1L GM. Difficult part about that engine is it has a cast aluminum pan with a o-ring seal. In order to keep cost down I try to modify factory pans but the factory material isn't ideal for welding. I am having to look into having a pan rail CNC'd out of steel for fabrication. I have one more idea for modification to the factory pans that won't involve welding.
IMO If they gave me the freedom I feel these engines would benefit from an external reservoir.

Does anyone offer an aftermarket aluminum pan for it? Maybe you could buy just the rail and fabricate your own.

I haven't found any yet but I haven't done a in-depth search.
