Air cleaner
I need to find a good larger air cleaner for my 521 engine, it will need to fit a 4500 Holley style carburetor. I'm sure there is some out there that makes a good base a lid that will fit a large air filter. Besides those cheap china stamp steel stuff.
Your help would be appreciated!

Re: Air cleaner
Moroso makes the largest one I have seen. Aluminum base and top, element is 16" in diameter and 4" tall. Part #65920.

Check www.speedwaymotors.com out. I know it's a dirt track place, but their brand of the reusable filters look exactly like the k&n's but are half the price. or if you want to pay full price, they have the k&n's as well.

Re: Air cleaner
What do you think about this style?

One option could be to do a high water type intake setup.

Re: Air cleaner
This one looks interesting, not really my thing but it would be nice to show off the carb.

Re: Air cleaner
I have this one. It has a bell that has been cut down on the sides to fit into a tray. It doesn't affect the sealing. I also have a chrome top for it as well.

Re: Air cleaner
Curt,what diameter filter is that?
I think I am going to go with the 18" diameter housing with a 4" tall filter. Unless I decide to go with some type of snorkel setup or if I can find a larger filter. The 18" specs say it will flow 2,600 cfm and that doesn't sound like enough.
I do like the clear top and base. I'm probably going to use a QuickFuel Black Diamond 1250 or 1150 QFX carburetor. Hate to cover that pretty gem under a plain jane air filter housing.
I would have thought there would be more air filters available for a dominator carb. I guess most sanction bodies that run off road require the smaller carbs.

14x6
The flow numbers are much higher without the oil. Since this was a dragster filter only, I never oiled it. Just used it to keep out the bigger particles and rocks. I ran it on a 598 at 7,700 rpm without any reduction in performance. Now I have duals and use the corvette filter.

Re: Air cleaner
This all might change..
If the setup sits close to the hood I might throw a cowl hood on and do something different.

Re: Air cleaner
Don't be afraid of restriction if you're using a good gauze type filter (like K&N). I have one on my racecar (it's a 4" x 14" deal on an 1150 Dominator) and have run alternating passes with and without the air cleaner numerous times...and saw no discernable difference on my timeslips.

Re: Air cleaner
That's good to know. I know when I ran a air filter on my 460 it was a night and day differance. I don't want to run this engine without a air filter unless I'm at a drag strip.
Has anyone used the K&N filter assembly they sale for the Dominator's? (They only sale one)

Re: Air cleaner
Like I mentioned before, I use the Speedway Motors 4x14" re-usable filter ($24 vs. the K&N @ $62) and the Speedway Superflow top (again $30 vs. K&N @ $70). You can buy a nice spun aluminum base for a 4500 or make one and the whole deal will be less than the K&N stuff. I'm not into the "Pretty" aspect, but more for functionality being I race a mud truck. I also run the Outerwear cover to keep the big chunks out.
