Rookie gardener mistake !!
Ok so i have had plenty of small scale gardens before but this one is about 100' x 50' and i believe i planted to early .... Looks like Thursday temps will get down to around 34-35. Anything i should do or did i just screw up. half is seed and the other are baby plantings??

Re: Rookie gardener mistake !!
The ground is already pretty warm. I figure it'll survive if the temp doesn't fall much lower than predicted.
Florida growers run sprinklers during light freezes.

How long are the low temps expected to last? A covered frame works great but with a garden that big it could be very expensive. A lightweight mulch cover like pine straw would be your best bet.
Re: Rookie gardener mistake !!
I would water it before you go to bed and if you can get some straw to cover it with that would help too!!!!! good luck

As long as it don't get down any lower and don't last more than a few hours you should be fine it might stun but shouldn't kill it.

Re: Rookie gardener mistake !!
Depending on how big the plants are,we always used old milk jugs to cover little stuff. Cut the bottom out and cover it till the next day. It should be ok if you don't get any frost.

Do want Dave says, then have a few Bruno drinks, then go out and sit under the plastic and do what you do best,,,, tell all your plants how fast your new car is going to be, and how your going to whoop everyone's a$$ at the next bash! There won't be a chance in hell that they will freeze with all that hot air.dfree383 wrote:Cover it with plastic

Re: Rookie gardener mistake !!
In the future if you want an early crop a floating row cover is awesome.
We used to use one called "Remay" I think? We'd cover by hand 10 acres of tomatoes and peppers every night aiming for an early/late crop when we were market farming for the NYC greenmarket.
Running the sprinklers does indeed work as well.

Re: Rookie gardener mistake !!
Gather up some dead leaves out of the woods nearby in a garbage bag and cover the plants rake them off the plants after the frost threat is gone and let them rot .Maple leaves are best .

We always water before a freeze. That way the water will freeze on the out side of the plant and insulate the plant. That keeps the moisture in the plants from freezing.
