the cheapest......
Big block build you have done with all stock ford parts other than a cam and valve springs
I'll start........my cheapest build was a d1 block with efi pistons and truck rods with dove heads and comp sft cam and a dual plane intake and a 950 hp carb..... sent a convertible fox to 12.20 in the 1/4 with a 3.73 gear and c4 with 2800 stall and a 28x9 slick.
Share your cheapest build it always seems those are the most fun cause it was low budget and no worries.
Edit: there was a total of 438$ in this build

Re: the cheapest......
The last cheap engine I built was a slant six in the 60's for my 50 dollar Valiant.
Re: the cheapest......
I would have to say a 351w in my 69 mustang had around $500 in it ran the crap out of it. We went to the track every Thursday night with it that was back in the mid 90s.

Re: the cheapest......
Randy, that's alot of work just to drive it to scrap yard for 50$ j/k
Lee, those are the funnest deals or they was for us at least
Jim, we beat on this ol big block for 2 summers and I think the guy sold the motor to a man in GA for a ford deluxe or something and still running it was just parts around the shop we need out and just couldn't scrap them

I paid 50 bucks for it. It had a blown head gasket and a rod knock. Rebuilt that engine and drove it around, for the next 4 years; (not to the scrap yard).
Turned it into a street/strip car after its solely transportation stint ... high compression 318 with a dual-quad tunnel ram, 4 speed, 5.13/1 rear and 4 mufflers in parallel, (talked about on here). Went 11.90 in full street trim; (except 9" cheater slicks), through the exhaust system in 1972. Drove it to work and back, all year, as my only vehicle.
Doing THAT part of it was NOT cheap.

Stock Cleveland cars... headers/exh, bigger carb, cam/liftters/p-rods, timing gears (Nylon be gone!), and better distributor...clutch or gears and converter too if on the shelf, Magnum 500's / rubber.

None taken ... just a more complete explanation.
Re: the cheapest......
I also built a 400m out of left over Cleveland parts a friend tore up. Small solid cam,trw pistons,4v closed chamber heads with port plates on exhaust and good intake with 850 holley. It ran damn good in bracket race trim @ 6.80 in a 2700# car. It really liked a 400 shot that took it to 5.70's !! stock crank and rods!

Re: the cheapest......
A few yrs.back I helped my new son in law rebuild a stock D0ve headed 460.We had to bore it .030 ,new cast flat tops and bearings. Did a new(oem) valve job on the heads and a new Ford racing hyd cam and springs. Can't remember specs, somewhere close to 550 lift. Junky stealth intake w/780 Holley,MSD dizzy w/light springs, and 6al box. 1 3/4" headers,C6 w/3000 conv. and a 4.30 gear and 9" slicks. We stuck it in a 68 F100 short box and didn't cut any weight. Took it to Kilkare Dragway in Zenia and on the first pass we shucked the stock u joints. Took it back the next week and w/some tuning we got it down to 12.20's. I traded him out of the truck and sold the engine to my brother. He put it in a 89 Fox body and it ran 11.70's w/same drive train as was in the truck. We probably had less than $700 in that engine back in 96.

Now that sounds like a fun little build "it's just a little 400m truck motor"cool40 wrote:I also built a 400m out of left over Cleveland parts a friend tore up. That's rocking in a truck for such a mild build. how much do those trucks weigh?

Re: the cheapest......
In 2012 we bought a black fox coupe with 302 eddy heads with a 5 speed for $400. Pulled the engine sold the roller with trans for $1000. Pulled the eddy heads off and it was a stock shortblock. Put a set of stock gt40 heads with springs and stock rockers on with a comp xe270 cam with a vic jr and a 750 holley carb. Slid that into my 85gt with a stock c4 and stock converter. Sprayed a drilled 102 jet through a cheater plate to it for a full season before trans let go. Ran 10.90s at 3200lbs. It was a free racing season with what we made off the roller.
