Re: Holy s#*+ what's ......
Just for reference, a model 8896 without power valves had factory jets at 88 square.
Maybe somebody tried to fatten it up for E-85 or something...dunno. If it has no pv's, I'd toss in a set of 90's and start tuning.

I have 96s in all 8 holes on mine. 525 cu in. 1100cfm dryflow.
It comes down to how big is the carb? And how small is the engine? The less displacement under it, the more surface area for fuel to pull through the carb required. Thing could have been on some screaming small block.

The 8896 has no valves as delivered from Holley.
The 8896-1 does have a 125-55 PV in it as delivered by Holley.
88 jets square for both.
Metering blocks are different between both as well.
The 8896 uses the 34R9565AS metering block on both sides.
The 8896-1 uses the 34R11972-1A on both sides.
This info is from the carb list chart on the Holley website.

Re: Holy s#*+ what's ......
Can the 8896 carb be modified for screw in air bleeds and still work properly?

Re: Holy s#*+ what's ......
Jets are just a number. Use whatever the motor wants.
The old style boosters do not atomize fuel very efficiently and sometimes can require a very large jet size.
They can be tapped for screw in air bleeds. This is my old 6464 1050.

I run a 9375-1 on a 11.4:1 472" with it squared at 96. No PV's either. We tried jetting it down on the dyno and lost almost 20HP going from 92/94 to 88/88. The more jet we gave it the more she liked it.

How old...?
The earliest ones had only .140" angle channels in the metering blocks and needed jets that large when using no power valves with oxygenated fuel.
Re: Holy s#*+ what's ......
Not really sure but I will check the channels
