XDR crash at Vegas today

Heres a clip of a XDR crash at Vegas today, throttle stuck, don't know why he couldn't shut it off.

maybe he just wanted to spend alot more money on a new car... thats just stupid.......... He should of just hit the Ignition and all switches cut the fire to the engine.....

i was thinking the same thing but it might have knocked him out or something when he hit the wall

He must have been knocked out after the initial hit. Thats just crazy!

I'm sure his lights were out after hitting the wall that hard . That was a hell of a lick. Just lucky it wasn't worse than it was.

This was posted on YB from Mel that puts on the race, driver is Eric Peterson from Auburn WA, on the run before this happened, he ran a 7.77.
If he was out, what kept the car in one place? It almost looks like he had the brakes applied somehow, which might be the sparks coming from the rear wheel brakes

Driver was unconscious when we got to him... He is at the hospital and is OK and will be released in a few hours!! I'm at a race track 2-3 days a week (if not more) never seen anything as crazy as that!! So glad he's OK, but he was mad as hell when we cut the cage off to get him outta the car!!

Here's some more that a freind of Eric posted, but I don't know if he hit the button before the first impact or not, the chute did come out, but that might have been from the jolt of hitting the wall.

Eric had a panic switch on the wheel that would d-ploy the chute, kill the batt. and activate the fire syst.all at one time, pedal was stuck from the start and he was knocked out on the first hit and woke up after the second hit. crew not sure why panic botton didnt kill the eng. mag's can be funny that way

Good thing he fubared that front end or he could have come screaming back towards the starting line. That would have been a super mess.

Erics throttle stuck and was knocked out on the first impact. It was the worst feeling in the stands watching your buddy doing this shit and nothing anyone can do.That car was a leaf spring car that was certed to 6.50 et He had a hahns and a -20 suit safety was priority for him even 2 parachutes. He was basically running a promod engine in a 275 radial car, It had a msd 44 amp mag with a waterman lilbertha belt driven pump with big stuff computerrunning moran 235 and 500 lbs injectors on alcohol.procharger135 on a 598 cu engine. he is so lucky that car did not hook up !

I saw this from the stands on Saturday night and it was crazy. I was so scared for the driver. Eric was in the tower on Sunday, he was ok. But damn that was the strangest things I have ever seen at the race track. At the drivers meeting Sunday morning Mel said they needed to use epoxy to repair the track where the wheels dug in after burning through the tires.

It looks like at about 2:24 in the clip the right front wheel was still turning until it crossed back over the center line after thr first impact , then it locked up and slid, it was still locked up when the car spun back around to the right coming out of the smoke.
