New SCJ heads on a 429
Well Im feeling pretty good My wife just bought me a bare set of the New SCJ's From Lem !! These old Procomps are fixin to be a thing of the past !! So Question for ya'll I just got a little 429 with the old wiesco dome's and I've ran a best untuned 11.90 @113.76 and I think I can get it a few tenths faster, You thnk these heads are over kill for the little motor? and do you think they may be worth 75-100 hp over the pro comps ? heres a picture of the pistons not sure what the compression will end up at
Heres what I got
429 Wiesco domes
ProComps 93cc Flow-253@600/193@600
.258/.260@.050 .640/.640
H beams
Stock Victor 4150

Shane they will not work on that engine without a piston Change, the valve reliefs are different on the SCJ and the factory pistons....

You will not need an exh relief...but a new intake relief . You need you rub on that dome also ....it's solid I assume ?

Gerald Brand can cut 'um, its one of those if your gonna pull it that far down deals..............460 crank, diff piston.........I think you have H-beams anyway.

Dam boy, sounds like you need a 4.5" crank, 6.8" rods and a set of pistons.
I've got a 4.5" crank full of mallory if you decide to upgrade.
Also got a 460 crank that needs .010/.010 for free if you want.

you will have to remove some of the domes and hope they are not Hollow domes. some of the TRW pistons are hollow domes...

Re: New SCJ heads on a 429
Shane has a 4.5 crank. I mentioned the "stick the heads under the bed" and save up for the parts to put the stroker together.
Truth is thats more motor than the car needs right now. We'll get a cage in it, suspension etc and go from there.
The cheap and sensible deal would be to pull the 429 down, pull the valvetrain from the procomps and stuff in the scj heads, notch the pistons, put it together and go race.
The whole having the car apart thing for another year while everyone else goes racing sucks.
I told the wife I want some A460 heads from Santa, doubt I'm as lucky as Shane is lol.

Re: New SCJ heads on a 429
You can build a 460 short block with flat-top pistons for very little money to put those SCJ heads on ... then use all the stuff from the 429 to complete it.

That was kinda what I was wanting to do.. I have a .040 460 on the engine stand with hyperutectic pistons that I could change out to forged in the mean time but I was kinda wanting to run the 429 just to see what the little motor does with good heads.
I dont remember if the domes in it are solid, if you were looking at the pistins fron the bottom you couldnt see the dome. Would that mean they were solid ? also what kind of rubbing would need to be done to the domes ? Is it just so it would fit the combustion chamber ?
