Pardon my lack of knowledge on this subject.

One time about 25 years ago a fairly reputable engine builder in Fargo told me that in his opinion one of the limiting factors for a 385 series Ford engine was the cam bearings being too narrow, and he showed me a block with needle bearings, saying that was the fix if you wanted to run a solid roller cam with high valve spring pressure.

Is that true?

Plenty of oil clearance is what is needed with a roller cam.
