Man, I need a big block Ford engine...preferably 572 or bigger. Just can't afford to buy or build one. Simply too much.
But I'd trade several vehicles for it!!
1984 F-350 dually, 6.9L diesel with a Banks turbo kit
1979 Ford Fairmont 200/6 cyl. Needs work.
1970 Torino 500 needs resto and slight metal work around rear window channel (had vinyl top).

Im just throwing this out there. I don't expect anything. Im just sick of not being able to race. Blew up my motor 2 years ago....its been sitting ever since and Im F'n going crazy.

I try to trade whenever possible but, it not easy but sometimes it works. So you have to have a 572 to race nowadays?

Trading like that is done all the time however, the value has to be near equal and the people involved BOTH have to want what is being traded.  To find THAT someone who has what you want and would like to get what you have is the difficult part.

It's usually very difficult. Better to sell your stuff and save the cash to buy what you want/need is what I have found works best.

That's likely, true especially if you don't want to Zing it to the Moon and Not Run outlandish compression and cam. The best thing I've found is to not be in a hurry and acquire parts as they become available at lower cost are save up money and wait for a deal on a used engine at a lowish price. I have been waiting over 2 years on my junk but, when I got serious in the last few month's I've found quite a few good deals. Usually when the good deals came around I did not or could not have the money to spend on Speed Parts. Let a bunch of good stuff go a few months ago very cheap because of it, I did manage to get some of it for myself and passed some along to a few people around here that where looking for stuff too. If I see what you are after I will try and do the same.

My point is if you got $5-7k worth the stuff your asking a little much to get a $15-20k motor for it.

I am not trying to rude or anything but based on the limited description of the vehicles I think a guy would be lucky to find a used 460 for trade. Unfortunately I don't see any appreciable value to any of those vehicles. But that is just me. Like mentioned above, it is all a matter of finding the right person.

They are worth something to someone, but don't expect a high dollar engine trade for only them.

It seems to me if you want a Poor Boys Stroker a 545 would be the ticket with a Ching Chong stroker 4.5" reciprocating assembly and some $600 dollar ported big valve heads, and I have seen the DOVE heads for less then that sometimes. Once in a while you might find some PI's or CJ's for a decent price if you are patient, like I did but, the Doves are way more plentiful and less expensive. 9's is never cheap even with a ligt car, so I would get that out of your head or plan on adding a power adder, and Nitrous is the cheapest bolt on I know of. Does the Torino have a Nodular 31 spline 9" and what engine came in it? That car would be you best trading material I think, of the ones you listed.

You say a lot and I'm going to go out on a limb and say you haven't ever had or built a 572.

Like all deals you have to watch all the time and be ready to jump. Sometimes you just have to be lucky as well but deals do come around. Maybe not bad ass 572's but maybe something to at least get you running again.

I have enough parts laying around to throw a 466/514/557/572/598 and 608 if I used the A460 block from my falcon. But like has been said, its not cheap to build these engines.Better get some better trading stock together. Smile
