Broken intake bolt 93 5.0l
Working on my 93 LX 5.0l. It has always used a little coolant so I finally decided to take the intake off and have a look. I broke the passenger rear bolt off. The other rear corner bolt was all carboned up but I managed to get it out. There is not enough sticking up to get vice grips on. I heated the bolt and soaked it with PB blaster several times. THen I welded a bolt on top but it still won't budge. I soaked it some more and I am going to let it set till morning. If it won't budge I was thinking of heating it up again. At some point I will probably have to drill it out but that is going to be a bugger against the firewall.
Does anyone have any better ideas?
While you are here... Is it normal to have this much oil in the port? I assume it is from the egr. The car has 92k miles. It doesn't smoke or use oil.

You have the bolt welded already, try heating it with a torch and use a candle to hold against it, the wax will melt and run down the threads and act as a lubricant when it cools, I have done this many times on exhaust manifolds with success to the point I keep a candle in the tool box for this purpose.

I let it sit overnight and it came right out in the morning. The PBS Blaster worked it's magic.

PB Blaster is some damn useful stuff. It surprised me how fast it will knock down corrosion on battery posts.

Glad it worked out for you.
If any of you guys are looking for the best penetrating lube for jobs like this...try a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF.

I recently tried some stuff called "Kroil" with pine oil in it. Seems to work OK for loosening corroded bolt threads.

I haven't been able to find Kroil for years. My dad had that stuff for years growing up and worked like a champ

Lol.. my buddy's dad used to boast about Kroil 25 years ago.. we thought he was brewing it up in the basement
Re: Broken intake bolt 93 5.0l
Hey, guy's - just did a little online search for "Kroil", it's available from Amazon as well as others. Amazon offers an 8 ounce can for 15.95 (best price I found in my brief search). So this miracle rust busting concoction is still available, hope that was helpful.

I use it and keep it on hand. Good stuff. You can order it directly from the Kroil people too.
