broken bolt
Has anyone ever had a bolt in the jomar stud girdle break, my car got a vibration in it, and backfired a little, I shut it down, took it to the pit, and pulled the valve covers off, all I found was a broken bolt in the girdle, has this ever happened, and would it cause the trouble I mentioned?
Bruno move this up, I messed up, should be in engine tech.

Hell I don't remember, but I can't figure the problem, unless the washer got in the valve spring or something.

Re: broken bolt
I had one break on a Probe girdle. But ,it broke when I was tightening it. I think everybody wants to get a little torque happy on the poor little 5/16 bolt.Good thing you caught it before broke some stuff, better take a close look at your valve springs?

I ordered 16 new grade 8 bolts, and 16 new washers, the old ones are grade 5, so overkill can't hurt, I checked all the rockers, push rods, and springs, so I going to put her back together, I think the bolt might have been broke for a while, the distributor was the culprit, I sent it back to msd for a complete rebuild.

Re: broken bolt
last msd distributor i ran was a "new" POS. i made a new bushing for it and put a few holes in it for a little extra oil and it was ok.it did'nt have 500 miles on it when it took a dump.342g wrote:cool40 wrote:hell put another bolt in it and run it! it'll show up later if it's a problem.
