Congratulations to Randel Miller
From Murray, KY for winning both the Pro Street class and the Pro Stock class in the Ken-Tenn Pulling Association this year Randel has two trucks, the Pro Street truck is 485 CID and uses cast iron CJ heads (DOOE-R) and the Pro Stock truck is again 485 CID and uses TFS A-460 heads, that we ported and flowed. Furthermore Randel won Puller of the Year
Now the part that bites. Every two years the pulling association reviews the rules, and in the rules meeting that was held today, the majority Chevy boys voted out his TFS A-460 heads for use in Pro Stock and he's going to have to change his combo. Be that as it may, Randel has every reason to be proud of himself and we're certainly proud of him

Go figure. Seems to me them Chevy boys should just get 'em a set.....and I don't mean just a set of A460's. I gotta wonder what kinds of heads are legal on the Government Motors trucks ?!?!

Yup. A whhole bunch of 'em in the crowd, and not one of 'em with enough stones to say, "He beat us at our own game." Their solution?.....Take their football and go home.
Charlie, Can we find out what Chevy heads are legal in that class?

I'd be curious as well in respect to what Government Motors heads are legal. Just doesn't seem right...

Re: Congratulations to Randel Miller
Guys,
I'm not sure what WAS legal for the GM bunch, but the intent of todays meeting was to clip Randel's wings. So the way the new rules read, are that any head that takes an OEM intake manifold gasket, without any kind of spacer and/or adapter, or aftermarket valley plate involved. (In other words the Price Motorsport adapters are illegal). So in terms of Chevy stuff, that means any conventional headed Dart, Brodix, Canfield, Trick Flow, Pro-Filer, CFE-BMF (which are some pretty mean heads), AFR, Edelbrock and so on. In other words, no spread port heads.
Anyway, Randel and Lem have something figured out, and we'll do the titanium valve and shaft mounted rocker arm thing, which is pretty much mandatory on any competitive truck pulling engine. The pullers are harder on their valve train than drag racers, because they hold the throttle open for around 18 - 20 seconds, and they spin those engines anywhere from 8,000 rpm to 9500 rpm. As a result, I'm always repairing a lot of heads for truck and tractor pullers.
Take care,
Charlie

Just the age old story about if we can't beat what they got, we'll change the rules to make our stuff better.

Whooo Hooooo for Randel.
It sucks that they outlawed his a heads, it only a year or two ago that they started allowing them. At least they are still sticking to the oem iron heads in the pro street class. They used to let them run any iron and since they went to oem heads Randel's been knocking on the door the past couple years glad to see him get it this year.

Re: Congratulations to Randel Miller
congrats job well done
i woudlnt be to worryed about the rules change
the thing that sucks is now he has to build a new motor
but a good set of p51's will out flow alot of gm heads
my 1st year in st.mod class witch is the same as ntpa's super stock
i ran a flat top 501 with a set of home ported kasse scj's
and still was able to take the money home often
i didnt have the power most of them did but i was still beating big chef set up's
it is now all about power
and you can blow the tires off in pulling just like drag racing

Too much power can be just as bad as too little, if you can't harness it. Glad to see you stopped by Jesse.

Re: Congratulations to Randel Miller
That is sad. I was hoping they wouldn't do that. We ran with them twice this year and won both times. We run a chevy with 18 degree heads in no way should the a heads be outlawed. I was planning on building a ford again for the class but can't run with them now. All the other organizations in this area allow the a head.
Just a thought if you had one of the old short deck prostock blocks with the a heads would the stock intake be close to lining up with the ports? I know most chevy guys are running tall deck intakes on short deck blocks.

CONGRATULATIONS + !
Great job Randell, to say the least. The technique engaged to "disarm" you and your entry seems a popular choice for individuals or groups to defend their "lack of"! As Charlie mentioned, the Ford guys and gals are very proud of such an accomplishment as yours, as you should be! Keep the chin up, as well the good work. Good things do happen to good people!
