Headers or not?

Headers or not?
I am currently putting together a 460 with a 4.50 inch crank. It is going into a 55 Ford wagon set up as a tow vehicle. I doubt it will see 5K RPM.
Stock exhaust manifolds can fit. I have built headers before and can do it again. But it is a lot of work. Is there any point in headers for this application?

Re: Headers or not?
Stock manifolds will hurt it at even that low rpm. Maybe truck manifolds would be something to look at. Made sort of like the old rams horn Chevy's but better.

Re: Headers or not?
There are something similar to rams horn readily available. They are down the middle, right at the motor mounts. I need something like the original 55 manifolds; up, over, and down the back.IDT-572 wrote:Made sort of like the old rams horn
So, moving along a bit, how about a tri-Y? Whatever the port size is, to a 2.0 inch Y, then to a 2.5 Y which is the size of rest of the system.

Re: Headers or not?
FPA makes header for your application. Biggest obstacle with your header swap would be the steering box. Maybe modify a pair of cheap shorties.

I have been to the FPA site, never found a picture.
And I now only do exhaust in stainless.
I have considered cheap shorties and reducing them to flange and stubs. Forming to a non-round flange opening, without a same-shape mandrel is the hard part.
I have a front sump pan and rear, center steer rack. There is a lot of room at the rear, but I need to clear the upper control arms.
I have pics but this forum says I cannot post a link for a week.

Re: Headers or not?
Street rod shortys would be a good option and cost effective.
The manifolds are going to kill it.

^^^ This! Sanderson makes a nice set. Under $400 iirc

Both sides need to be like the right side of the FF462 set, and stainless. And that seems to mean do them myself.
Again, what about tri-Y?

Re: Headers or not?
There is one set that would work.
stainlessworks SKU: BBFT
Ford Big Block Turbo Headers: Up and Forward
I have an 89 7.3 IDI in a 9K#, 84, E350. I added a 2000, 7.3 PSD turbo, remote. Five pounds makes a huge difference.
I have a pair of T3/T4 that I was going to use but could not find room for the passenger side, so went with a single, larger, remote.
And there they sit on the shelf and the only headers I find are for twin turbos. Is fate plotting something here?
