For 1K HP you really don't need anything special. Standard weight forged crank and H beam rods with 2000 bolts will live a long time. I think the Lunati cranks are Scat forgings.
Chris keeps telling me that they are the same but, I have several observational issues with that. They may or may not be the same forging but, they ain't finished the same.
I am not sure about these days but Kellogg in Jackson, Michigan used to provide most of the steel crankshafts to Lunati.
Today, they may be just performing the machining for Lunati on somebody else' forgings for some applications.

There is a big difference in the surface of the unmachined part of the crank too.

It may not be the case with the BBFord. A very good friend and my former machinist in CA's brother was the head of the crank division at Scat and he told me personally that they supplied Lunati with their BB forgings, but we were talking about BB Chevy at the time so I'm not 100% sure.rmcomprandy wrote:Lem Evans wrote:Scott Foxwell wrote:You can also get BB Chev snout. Does having the shorter Boss snout interfere with running a motor plate?

No!
Re: Crank and rods for 1000hp?
Bought some nice 6.700 Oliver's.
Think I'm going with a Scat 4.500 with Boss snout.
Now I need an A460 block!

Dear Santa Lem, all I want for Christmas is an A460 big bore block and a set of 598 Diamond nitrous pistons for TFS A heads!

Last I heard Kellogg signed a huge contract with CAT (last year), and dropped anything we'd be interested in. Killed us on the 4.6L cranks, until Scat stepped up.
Lunati buys from several crank companies, Scat and Callies for two.
