Rust on the plugs, moisture in the cylinders
Tearing down the 545, and seeing this problem again. This engine has always seemed to gather moisture/condensation/water or whatever it is in the cylinders. Just enough to put a little surfce rust on the plugs, and maybe make some superficial marks on the cylinders.
There are zero indications of head gasket leakage, the water in the radiator never goes down (I run a little antifreeze, too, and I don't detect that in the cyls, but anything is possible).
I have run three different blocks as well, and the problem was unchanged.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to stop this issue?
Thanks,
Greg

The oil is never anything but super clean.
Is there anything I can do to minimize this?
Thanks,
Greg

Relative to the cyl walls...a guy could spray WD 40 in the plug holes and close the valves during the off season .Greg_P wrote:The oil is never anything but super clean.

Re: Rust on the plugs, moisture in the cylinders
You could pull the plugs and spray the cylinders down with WD40 or something similar when it's going to be parked for extended periods. Won't cure the problem, but it will help minimize the rust.

Re: Rust on the plugs, moisture in the cylinders
I get loads of moisture in my cyls from the alky, I pull them after every race after i fog the motor down, no rust, leakdown numbers good. Might be a tad harder to do that on your deal Greg, after you get done racing and put the car up pull the cleaner and spray some WD down each carb barrel with the eng idling............easy to do.

I think it has a lot to do with where you keep it. Mine will sweat when the temp. and humidity are right in the shop! Sometimes I can see a condensation line on the fuel cell, carb ect.... But it's only in the winter monthsGreg_P wrote:The oil is never anything but super clean.
