OD Trans for 351C
Thoughts for an overdrive transmission for a 351C it would be replacing an FMX in a 3800# car. Guessing the AOD, fairly mild street driven mid to low 400hp 351C, 28" tire 4:30 gear, thinking 2800 street/strip type converter. How much upgrading to the trans will be required, any ideas on size differences, mounts, and other swap information would be helpful too.
Thanks.
Thanks.

When I changed from a fmx to a aod in my 69 truck all I had to do was change the driveshaft and shifter linkage

I have done several AODs in heavy street /strip vehicles . Here are few tips, a good vb ,and change the cast iron sealing rings to teflon sealing rings. Also switch to 4r70w internals with a upgraded direct drum and half shaft. One of my customers has one in a 67 F100 two wheel drive 347 supercharged 17 to 20 psi of boost. been running it for over a year now. Just my two cents!

Thanks Whitey, I will have to find a core to bring to Frank, should I get a certain year of AOD for a core, and should I get a 4R70W too.

Re: OD Trans for 351C
You can do it either way , but I prefer getting both and taking two and make one good transmission .you can run a c6 torque converter with it. You have to cut the non splined area off of the 4R70 input shaft. Now worries about electronics other than neutral safety switch , back up lights .

When I put the 1st overdrive in it was behind a 351c making around 500hp it didn't last long. It was a stock aod from behind a 302 from a early 80's Ltd. But the one have in it now I bought from my buddy it has a shift kit it the truck now has a 351w making around 325hp I had it in it about a year now with no problems

Who makes a "good" valve body? What does it typically cost to do all this? I have been in a few C'4s and would like to try an AOD.

Thanks Guy's, The C-6 converter info is good stuff too... I have 4-here right now all different stalls. I seem to recall hearing the newer valve bodies were better than the older ones, is there a year range to get into the ballpark...90+? also what about the flexplate will the 28oz imbalance Cleveland C6 flexplate work, or will I need something different?. Finally which block plate is used?.

Yes 351c 2v will work I had to change mine when I bought a c6 from behind a 351c 4v the c6 had a different converter a smaller one with smaller bolt pattern for the 4v engine.FalconEh wrote: Thanks Guy's, The C-6 converter info is good stuff too... Were you using the AOD flexplate?, I have mostly the 4V CJ small bolt pattern converters, but I have both 351C SFI flexplates with the small bolt pattern 10" stock converter and the larger 11" converter bolt pattern, there are 4V's with the large bolt pattern too, I just change the flexplates based of of the converter used.
