New to the site looking for some advice on what motor would be the better choice 429/460 performance build looking up around 500-600 hp. I have a 1978 460 and a 1971 429 motor.

First the 460 has mild edelbrock part number 2167 cam / eldelbrock performer intake/ .60 over with stock pistons /with junk d3ve heads/ motors has about 1200 miles on rebuilt

Second the 429 bought this motor from a guy. It was a rebuilt he had to sell it, he did not know what parts were installed so don't know the cam size has a little bit of rough idle. Stripped down motor this past weekend looks like its .40 over all internals look good otherwise. Motor did not have original heads for a 71 so I was running semi ported d3ve heads.

Motor is for my mud truck 1977 F-250 has 2 1/2 ton rockwells 6.73/1 gear ratio/ divorced 205 transfercase/ 53 in tractor tires/ C6 auto with shift kit and racing clutches/ 2500 stall/ truck weighs around 7500-7800 lbs

have a new weiend stealth intake/ new Holly 950 carb/ roller tip adjustable rocker arms with screw in studs for the build. looking to get new cam/aluminum heads/pistons/ or any other suggestions

guess budget would be around $3500 to $4000. Thanks for any advice Bill

Displacement is your friend. Go with the 460, or bigger if you can afford to.
