Drive shaft specs Empty Drive shaft specs

5000lb bronco with ~650hp and 200shot. What type of material would be good for the shaft itself. One shop I contacted recommended 3" / 0.120" wall tube. Drive shaft will be in the 30-36" range.

What do you drag car guys run for shaft material?

Thanks,
Jon

Don't know why you didn't get a response, But your typical drag race car is running the shaft your shop described. The high end cars are using Carbon fiber or Aluminum.

IMO at that weight it might be better to keep things simple and just go with either mild steel or 'moly tube material vs aluminum or CF. Also might be a good idea to bump the shaft O.D. up a little bigger than 3".

My truck pull rig, is 5500lb and the drive lines are exactly what you described, cept rear is almost twice as long, not a problem with them
