4300 Carb Prblems
Hi,
I'm new to Fords & 460s. I've got a '72 460 with the 4300 carb. I had the carb rebuilt professionally, when i got it back the idle was too high, I thought I had it adjusted to specs (the idle seems ok now maybe a litlte low), but there are other issues
1 Pops back under acceleration, about 2 or 3 times like when you take off from a light
2 Bogs down severely under acceleration and has limited power
3 Either my gas gauge is lying or it's using an absurd amount of gas, almost seems like 1-3 MPG
If anyone has more info about adjusting these 4300 it would be much appreciated. Or if you've switched it out for another carb what you have put in

Re: 4300 Carb Prblems
Have you contacted the "pro" that built it first?
Is the engine stock? Did it function properly prior to the "pro" rebuild?

Re: 4300 Carb Prblems
Yeah, they are of very little help. Engine is totally stock. It was sent back once, they tested in on their test engine and claimed it ran fine. It was running ok prior to the rebuild, I only drove it once or twice, I didn't notice any problems. I had it rebuilt because the gaskets were hard, it was starting to leak, the base gasket was bad too, in general it was "tired". Not sure it had ever been rebuilt before.

Re: 4300 Carb Prblems
I'd do a general tune up first, plugs, points, set dwell and timing, etc
Check for vacuum leaks
Change fuel filter and maybe pull the carb down and blow everything out.
Bad gas or dirt could be a culprit too.
