F50 4x4 frame question Empty F50 4x4 frame question

Post  whitefield February 12th 2018, 2:57 pm

I have a 97 F250 powerstroke 4x4 that is rusted down and I have had a hard time finding a good regular cab long wheel base frame.
I was wondering if a 88 4x4 F250 frame will interchange ?  Thanks Whitefield

very front of the frame where bumper mounts might be different. the rest should be pretty simple to work with

It has to be a 96-97 7.3 or 460 3/4 or 1 ton frame, 4x2 and 4x4 frames are dimensionally the same. The 4x2 frames can be used but you have to lay out and transfer the spring hangers and shackle mounts, it's not to tough. When you say it's rusted down, can you be more specific as to the location of the damage?

The frame behind the cab was rusted in half on both sides of the frame and the channel all of the back to the rear bumper cab bed fenders and doors are all were rusted down / out . Yeah there is a lot more to doing the 2 wheel drive frame . Front of the frame has to be boxed in and crossmember has to be changed along with spring purch shock mount and steering gear box mount relocation.

It's just easier to change frame!

Yeah, it is a lot of work. I had to section the right rail on my bosses 97 F350, same problem, no good frames. I had to use a 4x2 frame rail and make it work. The reason I ask about the damage is it would be a lot less work to section the rear half with a good donor frame. I've repaired several insurance jobs this way, much less work than a full frame swap, I've had to do a couple of those also, on an older truck it's just awful.
