Carb pad lift plate

Will it be alright to lift my 460/aod with a carb lift plate? I use it on my sbf /c4 but never on the big block with a transmission. I have aluminum heads as well.

That's the way I lift mine out, even when I had iron heads.

I actually seen goofballs lift their sheetmetal intake equipped engines that way!
I prefer the cable sling that bolts to back of 1 head and the front of the other head.

I have this on it now but I need to shorten it up to clear my ceiling.

Lift plates are fine, make sure you have enough thread engagement and the bolts are tight. A single 5/16" bolt has over 1500lbs of load strength and there are 4 of them.

I’ve lifted my bbf with a C6 attached more than once. No problem.
Would do it again. Like was already been stated, The bolt shear strength is around 6k total. Make sure they are tight. No need to over tighten. Just make sure they are good and snug. An iron headed 460 with a C6 attached isn’t even 1K#. You’ll be fine.

I’ve used the carb pad mount in the past and it worked but I always felt it was lacking. I decided to build my own adjustable sling. That’s a 1250 lb Detroit Diesel that didn’t even phase the adjustment acme screw on the sling.

JasonF, what intake is on your engine in the picture? It looks like the injector bosses are cast in instead of added later.

56 Mainline. The cap was cheap and easy to keep the fumes out. It's been in there for about 14 years. Eventually it will get deleted all together.

Great looking body style. Iv'e always liked the no frills versions of these cars. I have 57 Custom tudor.
