rod and main bearing's
i was wondering what ya all have been running
and what has been working the best
i have always ran clivite h bearings with good result's
and also acl's
but i am wondering if there is anything better?
like a coated bearing
i rilly dont care about the cost i just want the best
bearings is one thing i will not cheap out on
motor will spin 8000rpms+ for aprox 20 sec's
truck pulling
thease motors seem to be the worse abused

Re: rod and main bearing's
If they are meeting your expectations and lasting why bother changing?
But I do feel the coatings are worth the Extra $$$, I've used Adneys Stuff (He applys it himself) and Calico's stuff both worked fine IMO.

Re: rod and main bearing's
i just wanna see what is working good for others
on this current motor when i ran the clivite mains and acl rods
it seemed to work very well but i did not have many runs on it
and last year i ran acl's rod and mains but i spun a few rods bearings due to a oil line
comming off on the track
so i hope this comming season i will get more runs on this motor than before
and run it a bit harder
i am leaning towards clevite mains and acl rods again
but nothing is set in stone
and maybe there is better bearings out there for a harsh race motor application

Re: rod and main bearing's
On pulling trucks I like the King bearings as I have not used the ACL bearings enough to make a call, though I think I'm going to like them. Clevites are probably my least favorite at this point. I like the harder bearings on the King better than the Performance bearings Clevite or SpeedPro offers. I can tell you that if you have a tune issue and any detonation... this will literally knock the coating off bearings. Been there done that. Yes I know, I have been mean to some of this stuff in the past. But, I know better now. Or do I?

Re: rod and main bearing's
I have King 3/4 groove main bearings and Clevite H-series rod bearings in my engine. When I got the King bearings in, I was very impressed with the quality.

Re: rod and main bearing's
one thing i do like about king bearings is the oil grove in the main bearings
but not shure if it helps or?
i was looking at some of the tri armor stuff and other coated beaings
i have heard mixed feelings about the king stuff
but i have used them in a nmotor i built and sold but never ran it
so i couldnt tell ya how they worked
but they did look nice

Re: rod and main bearing's
I'm liking the King and ACL the most for main bearings these days . As far as the rod bearings go....we don't use much clevite being that they charge more $s for something that others do just as well...i.m.o.
Re: rod and main bearing's
Jesse,
I tore my 545 down after two years and plenty of street miles and dragstrip passes...... more than one occasion the rev limiter was hit..... (7700 )
The ACL bearings (Bought from Adney of course) I took out looked like brand spankin' new. I'm talking machine marks on every surface.
I feel cheap, but they look so good that I'm gonna re-use them if the oil clearance mics out OK with the new crank.

Jesse, what more would one ask of an engine bearing?

Re: rod and main bearing's
i hear what your saying
but i was just geeting opion's
just because one brand is working good one time
dosent mean it will work good the next
maybe a sertain company has eather meraged or sold out
for example
brand A was great 2 yrs ago but for what ever reason are not so good anymore
while brand B
was so so a few yrs ago but latly has rilly stepped up there quilty
has become better than brand A
and i was also wondering about coated bearings
i have never dealt with them
and like i said i plan on putting alot more runs on this motor
than in the past and might run it a bit harder
not stupily harded but alot of other guys have stepped up there game
so i might have to run it a bit harder to try to keep up

Slick, Slicker, Slickest ?
Jesse I suppose there is a convincing story as to the use of or the non-use of any engine component! It's simply an application issue IMO, and my opinion is not worth much at all ..... relativity! I as you have included quality bearings as a part of my engine assemblies. They all have given excellent service, or is the application assembly and it's attention to detail responsible for the bearings high praise? Who the hell knows! I do know this, as most of us do, you lack in detail as assembly progresses and few parts will survive.
As for the coated bearings. A lot of people seem to like them. Hell even I have used a set to experience the benefits of a coated bearing, if one exist! The trouble with my past engine experiments is they make little power, contain quality parts throughout and remain some what consistent and together! Although this thread will have most certainly expired and our thoughts have moved on to the next "best technology", and when we decide to freshen the three season old engine that contains the coated bearings, I will be glad to forward a report of coated bearing performance relative to my applications!
A note that I may mention. During trial assembly I keep new un-coated bearings handy so I don't bang up the coated stuff. Also remember, the coating of the bearing shell will reduce oil clearance in the range of .0003" to .0005", depending on the coater! If there is a downfall of coated bearings, maybe the cost!
Wow , that's a &hit load of crap.
Happy motoring,
Dave.

lol thanxs dave
i think i get what your saying
altho i am still undecided
but i have a bit of time to decide
but what ever i decide
as long as i do my part and assemble it right
and keep a good tune
eather acl's or kings should work fine

Re: rod and main bearing's
I am going to say this we build some very big engines, not car engine.... I will say we have tried and found out Coated bearings and parts help in the long life of our Parts. I am talking 30,000 to 40,000 hours running around the clocks, shut down only for maintinance and repairs... After this many hours the bearings and coated parts look new... so it makes you wonder?????

Re: rod and main bearing's
I have always used the King main and rod bears with good success, I put a coated Clevite in the rods this last go round, we'll see how they look later this year when I freshen up the motor, I may just reuse them if they look like i think they will.
