Oil pump won’t prime
I put a new Kaase oil pump in and can’t get it to prime. The drill is going counter clockwise. Any ideas or suggestions?

Put 12 quarts of oil in the engine then after it primes, drain some out.
If it still does not prime ... you have other issues.

Did you use a gasket between the block and oil pump?
And between the pick up tube and the oil pump?

in the relatively few engines I primed never used a drill. always just used a speed/crank wrench. the description used a politically incorrect term in it. you can guess the rest.

Man, if you have a HV oil pump and primed it that way you'd have arms like Hercules when it finally primed.

If you leave those oil gallery plugs out during a rebuild you will get no oil pressure.

Re: Oil pump won’t prime
growing up the old school guys would always take the cover off the pumps and put grease in them saying it need it to prime.
So Ive just always poured some oil in pumps before I install them to get oil inside them. Never had a priming issue doing this.

Same here. Except I’ve evolved to using assembly lube the last few I’ve built.

So, either a plug was left out somewhere, or the pump is cavitating, or the pressure relief valve is stuck open, or there is a blockage somewhere.

Are sure you have the right size shaft?

Re: Oil pump won’t prime
wrong pickup tube
no pickup tube
pickup to far away from (oil) bottom of pan
oil filter
main galley plug left out
valley plug left out
not enough oil in pan
oil pump bad
could be a few diff things
