OK, so I have a 351W in my '76 bronco. It has J302 aluminum heads, hyd roller cam, victor jr, its a good bracket motor. I class race about 3 times a year, and my J302 heads are legal as a "factory" head, along with the hyd roller. I was thinking of going to a 392 stroker over the winter, as Ford offered a 392 crate motor, but I would have to stay with the J302 heads. Anyone got any opinions or experience here? Am I better off staying with my 351W which the J302s are more suited for, or should I take the cu inch of the 392 and know that the J302s are not quite suited for the additonal cubic inch?
btw the J302s have 58cc chambers, 1.94X1.60 valves, and it appears they have had some port work done intake and exhaust, but I have not been able to find any flow #'s for them.

Your compression is going to go up a good bit and torque as well. It's a good move in my book, just keep in mind your torque peak is going to be lower as well as the hp peak, so change your gearing and (converter) if it's a auto. That is if all else stays the same. It will be faster if you can hook up the new found torque. If the heads can be ported by someone who knows what they are doing , by all means have them ported. Get some flow numbers and get back with us. if you want a better answer. Wink

The 393 is a very good, inexpensive, and good all around power producing package. Hard to beat for the money.
