they are the same heads as the A460 TFS but they have smaller intake ports , they alsoo use a A460 Piston , intake, exhaust.

thanks man. what kind of power can be made with these things. i know the guy will probly use a stock block and it will be going a 64 galaxie 500 just shy of a sherman tank haha! the car has had fe engines rangeing from high rise 427 to 390 over the last 30 years and they are wanting to step up to 460 base engines.

if anybody knows what is the port volume and cross section on these in stock form? maybe he will get them to me after the first and we can get something rolling. i'm personally thinking about a 557 with these b heads but haven't really got to talk with the guy yet.

Port volume?....They are real small and may be what you wish after porting . They are a restistor plate kind of deal on an engine of that size i.m.o.

dang that small. don't know it they want to pay for a lot of porting lol. i really think a set of scj or p-51 may fit this a little better but as usual people buy up a bunch of stuff that don't match and want it to make 900 hp haha. maybe the b heades would be better doing a 514 deal. guess i really won't know untill i get them here and do some measuring.

Here is a build...557" . Is This more than your guy needs ?

The build:
557 cubic inch
4.440" bore Venolia flat tops 11:1 comp ratio
6.700" Scat rods
4.500" Scat forged crank
TFS 2.300" small valve A460 Heads bone stock
Old style TFS/FMS unported intake
Mild custom Comp roller by Lem Evans at B.F.Evans Race Parts

A racer could literaly order pretty much any part of this build off the shelf and put it together... Nothing exotic here. A true testimate to what can be done with the great parts we have available....

The Results:

With a standard Holley 1150 provided by Lem Evans on a mixture of 80% 93 octane pump gas and 20% 110...

826.4 hp @ 6300 rpm
755.3 ft. lbs @ 4800 rpm

With a Quick Fuel 1250 provided by Phillip Oakley on a mixture of 80% 93 octane pump gas and 20% 110...

830.5 hp @ 6300 rpm
760.8 ft. lbs. @ 4800 rpm

With the same Quick Fuel provided by Phillip Oakley on 110 Munster Fuel...

838 hp @ 6300 rpm
775.7 ft. lbs. @ 4800 rpm

We are going to do a little more testing tomorrow, we think there is a little more left to find... Again, thanks to everyone that helped... I had a great time and learned a lot! Thanks!!!

yea lem that would get it done i'm sure. the old 390 that expired had been running 7.50 or so 1/8 mile for over 10 years. this new set up should be interesting to say the least. how much difference in the a-460 with small valves in your build vs the b-460 deal.

Lem,
I'm curious, is the B head the same as the "Bastard" head. And also, what was the b head designed to do and do they have the same BBC exhausts Question as the A heads Question

Rick the B460 and the A460 are Identical except the b460 heads have smaller ports for hand porting or trucks where lots of torque is needed.... same exhaust ports and all..... no the are not the same as Bastard prostock heads not even close....

The true SVO B460 heads had the same exh. as the A460 but a small intake port .
The 'bastard' heads had a B460 casting #...but... no part # .

Post  DJOHAGIN December 31st 2009, 11:28 pm

Lance,

As mentioned, the ports are very small. The bottom of the intake ports are basically filled, but it tapers to the bowl, which by that point is basically A460 size. They have a reverse taper. It would be a shame to open the port to A460 size. If you find, in the end, that is required, I would suggest you tell the owner to sell them and get a set of A460 heads. I know of a few members who are seeking the B460 heads, and who want to use them for what they are.

Hope that helps,

Dave

B460 heads are not the "bastard" heads, the bastard stuff has approx 10-12 different generations of heads with various configurations, some even used gm type valve covers, valve layouts and combustion chambers. Typicaly they where made in very limited quantities and some worked great and other where ho hum.
